Art Integration Lesson Plan Template 2 3. Students will discuss the dream log theyve kept with a partner at their tables 4. I explain well be making our own dream boxes in inspiration of the Ojibwes dream catchers 5. Ill call each table of students (4-5 students per table) at a time to come to the middle of the room for a demonstration 6. Once all students are at the middle of the room, Ill explain we have to take the lids off our dream boxes in order to decorate them, but to keep in mind the lid will cover up part of the box so when they decorate it 7. Ill show them the first thing we do is put our names on the bottom of our boxes with sharpie 8. Ill show the students the materials we have to work with one by one (beads, hot glue gun, glitter tubes, stencil, feathers, and acrylic paint) 9. Ill go over the safety of using a hot glue gun (dont touch the tip, keep the glue gun on the table when its not being used) 10. Ill explain if the students want to use the stencils to write anything on their boxes, to trace the letters very lightly with pencil and then paint in the traced letters (Ill show an example of this) 11. Ill hold up the glitter sticks and explain you have to squeeze from the bottom to get the glitter out and that it takes a while to dry so be careful not to touch it after you apply it 12. Ill then explain that each table has to sets of plates with each color of acrylic paint on it, a cup of water for each student as well as a paper towel, and a paint bush for each student. Ill demonstrate using the acrylic paint and that if the students want to use a different color they need to be sure to thoroughly wash off their paint brush and dry it before switching to a different color of paint 13. Ill also explain that each table gets a set of glitter tubes to be shared between each student 14. Ill then point out the bead, feather and hot glue gun stations at the front and back of the rooms (there can be 2 students at each table at a time)

Art Integration Lesson Plan Template 3 15. Ill explain if/when they want to go to the bead and feather station they need to raise their hand and Ill send them when there is an opening 16. Ill then dismiss the students back to their desks one table at a time 17. When students are back at their desks Ill pass each student their box to decorate 18. The students will get the next 40 minutes to decorate their boxes 19. After the 40 minutes are up I will call each table of students to bring their decorated dream boxes to the back of the room to the drying station 20. After all of the boxes are in the back of the room, I will assign clean up jobs to each student (2 students to clean up the feather, bead and hot glue stations, 2 students from each table to pick up the paint plates and paint brushes and to take them to the sink to wash off, 1 student from each table to wipe down their groups table, 2 students to collect glitter tubes, the rest of the students will go around and pick up anything that fell on the floor 21. After clean up students will return to their desk and make a list of some of their aspirations to place in their dream box 22. The students will look at their list of aspirations and compare it to the dream log theyve kept 23. The students will write a reflection in their Writers Notebook about any parallels they may see between their dreams and aspirations and why they think they do or do not see any parallels Closure (Reflecting Anticipatory Set): Students will write a reflection in their Writers Notebook about any parallels they may see between their dreams and aspirations

Anticipatory Set (Gaining Attention)*: Students will have a VTS about Salvador Dalis painting the Three Sphinxes of Bikini

Formative Assessment strategy: Summative Assessment strategy*: Go around while students are working to discuss their work with them The reflection the students keep in their Writers Notebook about how their dreams may be effected by their aspirations

What student prior knowledge will this lesson require/draw upon? The significance of the dream catcher to the Native American culture

Art Integration Lesson Plan Template 4 What an aspiration is (one of their vocab words)

How will you engage students in imagining, exploring, and/or experimenting in this lesson? Students will be able to decorate their dream boxes in any way they want and in a way that expresses themselves Students can explore with using different art materials How will this lesson allow for/encourage students to solve problems in divergent ways? Students will try different art techniques to get their box to look the way they want it to Students can decide how they want to represent the dreams they put in their boxes (objects that show their dreams, writings about their dreams, quotes, drawings, etc.) How will you engage students in routinely reflecting on their learning? Students will think about and discuss their dream log with their peers before and after they make their dream boxes After the dream boxes are made, students will reflect on how their dreams are influenced by their aspirations How will you adapt the various aspects of the lesson to differently-abeled students? For students who like things to be perfect I would tell them they could test their ideas on a separate piece of paper before putting their designs on the final product I could also have the students who stress about perfection play with the different materials (glitter sticks, paint, etc.) on a separate sheet of paper until they discovered a technique they liked What opportunities/activities will students be given to revise and improve their understandings and their work? Students can practice their techniques on a separate sheet of paper before putting their designs on their boxes Students can revise what they think about the connections between their dreams and aspirations after discussion their ideas with their peers What opportunities/activities will you provide for students to share their learning in this lesson? Students will be able to talk quietly during the lesson about the choices they make about the decorations they put on their box and why they are choosing to decorate their boxes the way they are Students will also discuss how they think their dreams are related to their aspirations Lesson Resources/References (please be very specific by providing links, authors, titles, etc.): http://www.dream-catchers.org/dream-catcher-origin.php http://artsy.net/artwork/salvador-dali-the-dream
