BATTERY IS AN ELECTROCHEMICAL DEVICE WHICH STORES CHEMICAL ENERGY AND RELEASES THE ELECTRICAL ENERGY PARTS OF BATTERY GRIDS ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTING FRAME WORK POSITIVE PLATE LEAD PEROXIDE ACTIVE MATERIAL NEGATIVE PLATE POROUS MASS OF LEAD IN SPONGY FORM SEPERATORS NON CONDUCTING POROUS MATERIAL PLACED BETWEEN POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE PLATE TO AVOID THE TOUCHING EACH OTHER ELECTROLITE H2SO4( SULPHURIC ACID )
STATION LT SUPPLY SHOULD BE ALLWAYS AVAILABLE TO KEEP THE PROTECTION SYSTEM IN ENERGISED CONDITION BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE LT SYSTEM IS NOT RELIABLE.HENCE A BACK UP OF DG SET IS KEPT IN ALL STATION, BUT TO START THE DG SET IT REQUIRES SOME TIME, DURING THAT TIME BATTERIES PROVIDES THE LOAD TO THE PROTECTION SYSTEM .THAT IS THE REASON PROTECTION SYSTEM IS ALWAYS DESIGNED FOR DC. BATTERIES CAN PROVIDE THE SUPPLY TO THE STATION PROTECTION SYSTEM UPTO 10-15 HOURS DEPENDING ON THE LOAD.
APART FROM THE PROTECTION SYSTEM THE MONITORING AND RECORDING SYSTEM LIKE ANNUNCIATION , EVENT LOGGER , DISTURBENCE RECORDER ,GPS ,RTU, SPEECH AND PROTECTION COUPLER OF PLCC ARE ALSO CONNECTED TO THE BATTERY SYSTEM FOR RELIABILITY

RECHARGING
RECONNECT THE BATTERY TO CHARGER RECHARGE THE BATTERY BANK AT CONSTANT NORMAL RE-CHARGE CURRENT OF 10% OF CAPACITY RECORD THE INDIVIDUAL CELL VOLTAGE, BATTERY TERMINAL VOLTAGE AND SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF CELL IN ONE INTERVALS CONTINUE CHARGING TILL THE VOLTAGE OF EACH CELL REACHES 2.55 V TO 2.65 V AND SPECIFIC GRAVITY REACHES TO 1.2100.005. STOP THE RECHARGING OPERATION
GENERATOR IS A MACHINE WHICH CONVERT THE MECHANICAL ENERGY IN TO ELECTRICAL ENERGY GENERATOR IS BASED ON PRINCIPAL THAT WHENEVER FLUX CUT BY CONDUCTOR , AN EMF IS INDUCED WHICH WILL CAUSE A CURRENT TO FLOW IF THE CONDUCTOR CIRCUIT IS CLOSED.
WHEN THE LT SUPPLY IS NOT AVAILABLE D.G SET WILL BE TAKEN IN TO SERVICE TO FEED THE A.C SUPPLY TO THE SYSTEM. IF LT SUPPLY FAILED AND D.G SET FAILED TO START, SUPPLY WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR BREAKER COMPRESSORS TO BUILD UP THE REQUIRED AIR PRESSURE FOR CIRCUIT BREAKERS, A.C PLANT TO KEEP THE PROTECTION RELAYS, PLCC PROTECTION SYSTEM UNDER DESIRED TEMPARATURE F/F SYSTEM TO PUMP THE WATER AT PRESSURE WHEN IS FIRE IS TAKEN PLACE BATTERY CHARGERS WILL NOT FEED THE LOAD TO SYSTEM AND AS WELL AS TO BATTERIES. HENCE BATTERIES GET DISCHARGED. FAN AND PUMPS OF ICTS WILL NOT RUN HENCE THE WINDING AND OIL TEMPARATURE RAISES. TO OVER COME THE ABOVE PROBLEMS D.G SETSHOULD BE KEPT UNDER HEALTHY CONDTION.
STARTING PROCEDURE
START THE GENERATOR AT MINIMUM SPEED. WAIT FOR FEW MINUTES AND SLOWLY INCREASE THE SPEED UP TO 1500 RPM. CHECK THE VOLTAGE AND FREQUENCY AND ADJUST GOVERNER IF REQUIRED. CLOSE THE D.G. BREAKER AND CONNECT THE LOADS STEP BY STEP CHECK THE VOLTAGE, CURRENT, AND FREQUENCY. RECORD THE OIL/WATER TEMPARATURE, RUNNING HOURS,FUEL LEVEL ETC.ONCE IN EVERY TWO HOURS.
STOPPING PROCEDURE
REDUCE THE LOADS STEP BY STEP WAIT FOR FEW MINUTES AND BRING THE D.G.SET TO THE MINIMUM SPEED STOP THE D.G SET. RECORD THE FUEL LEVEL AND RUNNING HOURS.

IT PUMPS THE WATER TO HP TANK TO MAINTAIN THE PRESSURE IN THE WATER LINE. IF THERE IS A MINOR WATER PRESSURE DROP IN THE SYSTEM DUE TO LEAKS IN THE GLAND PACKING OF VALUES, FLANGE JOINTS, OR DUE TO CHANGE IN THE ATMOSPHERIC TEMPARATURE THE JOCKY PUMP WILL START AND COMPENSATE THE MINOR LEAKAGES. IT SHOULD BE KEPT IN AUTO MODE. IT OPERATES ON HP TANK FLOAT SWITCH.

WATER STORAGE
Water for the fire protection services has been made available in the fire water storage tank adjacent to the pump house. As per the TAC rules water to be stored for hydrant system should be 135 cum and 20 minutes water requirement of the largest equipment under the protection for HVWS system.

II. The Water Supply, Pumping Capacity and other features of Hydrant System depend not only on the size of risk but also Fire growth and spread potentialities. Accordingly various categorized by TAC . DESCRIPTION Hydrant System is a wet line and the system is always kept pressurized at 8.0 Kgs/Cm. Hydrants Have been provided around the periphery of the various buildings at distance of not more than 60 mts from each other. Location of hydrants have been fixed keeping in mind to attendant the fire hazards at different sections of particular building being protected. Two Nos of Hoses ( 22 Mts/15 Mts ) Nozzles have been provided in each box.

In the case of fire in a particular area, Hydrant located near by fire area to be opened by trained staff, manually. The Fire is fought by means of hoses and nozzles provided in the hose boxes

SYSTEM OPERATION
When any hydrant is opened, the pressure in the line drops. When the pressure fallows below 6. 8 kgs/cm the pressure switch will send the impulse to the motor control panel. Due to this power will be supplied to the motor and hydrant pump will start automatically and continuous supply of water is made available for the hydrant outlets. After the fire has been quenched, the pump has to be stopped manually.

IF HYDRANT PUMP FAILS TO START, THE PRESSURE IN NET WORK WILLFURTHER DROP DOWN TO 6.2 KGS/CM MAINELETRIC PUMP WILL START IF FURTHER DROPS TO 5.8 KGS/CM, DIESEL ENGINE PRESSURE SWITCH WILL ACTUATE AND DIESEL ENGINE WILL START AUTOMATICALLY AND PRESSURIZED WATER WILL BE SUPPLIED TO THE PIPE LINE. AFTER OPERATION DIESEL PUMP SHOULD BE SWITCHED OFF MANUALLY.

THE REQUIRED NO OF HYDRANTS TO BE OPENED. WATER STREAM FROM HOSES ARE TO BE DIRECTED TO ROOT FIRE BY TRAINED STAFF. NOTE: BEFORE OPERATING HYDRANT SYSTEM POWER SUPPLY TO ELETRICAL EQUIPMEN SHALL BE CUT OFF.

SYSTEM OPERATION
GENERALLY FIRE BREAKS OUT MAINLY DUE TO THE SHORT CIRCUITING OF CABLE. IN WHICH CABLE INSULATION MELTS AND GIVES SMOKE INITIALLY, THE DENSITY OF THE SMOKE IS LESS THAN THE ATMOSPHRIC AIR AND HAS THE TENDENCY TO TRAVELL UP. WHEN THE SMOKE REACHES THE DETECTOR FIRE IS DETECTED AND THE ANNUNCIATION OF FIRE IN RESPECTIVE AREA IS RECEIVED IN THE FIRE ALARAM PANEL LOCATED IN THE CONTROL ROOM. THE HOOTER PROVIDED GIVES THE AUDIABLE SIGNAL. QUENCH THE FIRE BY USING FIRE EXTINGUISHERS.

WHEN COMPRESSOR STARTS, IT COMPRESS THE FREON GAS . THE COMPRESSED FREON GAS WITH RAISED TEMPARATURE IS DELIVERED TO THE CONDENSER UNIT. IN CONDENSER UNIT THE GAS IS COOLED AND PARTIALLY IT BECOMS LIQUID. THE LIQUID GAS MIXTURE ENTERS THE AHU ROOM THROUG THE PIPES AND GETS EXPANDEDIN THE AHU . THE FREON BECOMES GAS AND THER BY ABSORB THE HEAT FROM THE AIR. THE FREON IN GAS STATE COMES OUT OF THE AHU THROUGH PIPES AND IS SUCKED BY THE COMPRESSOR AND CYCLE REPEATS.
