Good Morning!

Note: The building master key is on a pink ring in my desk. Keep this key on your arm at all time so you have access to all the rooms in the building, including ours. Before the bell rings: 1. Some of my students have cubbies in the room to the left of this one, and the door needs to be unlocked for them. 2. Write on the board: Friday November 22, 2013 AR Read Dont worry if you dont get everything done today. Enjoy my class they are fantastic children. 8:00 Bell Dismiss right away to the office. Olivia and Quintyn to say the pledge. Before you dismiss them ask them if they are having hot or cold lunch. Kilee, Zack, Aidan, and Caitlin go to Mrs. Lowlers room until math- (she is our special education teacher). 8:00-8:15 I have left out the baskets for spelling and math homework and notes from parents by their cubbies. (They should know to turn in their homework by now, but remind them to make sure that their names and numbers are on their homework. Tell them to check the board for what they are supposed to be doing in the morning. They need to be quiet during this time. It is silent reading. Some students will come up to you and tell you they are ready for a test and ask if they can use an Ipad. Our classroom Ipad is on the desk in the back, and the password is 3933. If it is being used they may use one from the internet caf, and not from Mrs. Rosenthals desk. (They should know that by now also.) During this time: Attendance is due by 8:10, and if its a few minutes late dont sweat it, itll be alright. There are 2 yellow attendance sheets for you (one for morning and one for after lunch attendance- dont throw the extra one away) to write absent and tardy students on. They are tardy if they arent in the room by 8:10. The runner will bring this down to the office. The class jobs are on the wall above their cubbies, but they know who does what job. (If someone shows up after you have taken attendance call Peggy at extension 4810 and let her know.) *To use the phone just pick up and dial the extension Take lunch count while taking attendance. There is a small purple box with all the student I.D. cards in it. As you call their names ask hot, cold, or peanut butter and jelly. If they are hot place in in the box.

If they are cold I put their card on the blue chart with my I.D. in it. If they want peanut butter and jelly the card needs to be clipped and placed on top of the hot lunch I.D. cards in the purple box when the lunch and attendance count is done. Count the hot and then count the peanut butter and jellies. This needs to be written on the attendance slip for Peggy. When you are done with that place the closed purple box outside the door for the lunch ladies to collect. 8:15-10:00 8:15-8:50 1. Finish reading Prudys Problem and answer the questions from the story. The teacher edition is on my desk I have a sticky note on the page that we left off of, and the questions are there as well. Just in case- Page 283a-289a (their books pages 282-289). 2. After you read the story and answer the questions spend about 115 minutes brainstorming and taking notes on the rubric that is behind the questions. 8:20-10:00 Math: $$ Counting Money $$- send the runner to get Kilee, Zack, and Aidan for math. Right now we are working with counting money. This is very hard for them. Some students do really well with this. (Danny, Aurora, Quentin, Marcus, Riley, and Jacob) Use them as helpers in explaining to their classmates that need help. Most love to peer teach. There are white boards and bags with fake money and coins for each student in the back of the room. 1. Pass out white boards and have the classroom janitor pass out the money. 2. Pass out the counting money worksheet. 3. Do the worksheet together as a class. 4. Do one problem at a time and have the partners work together to figure out how much money there is. Have students write answers on boards and raise the boards so that you can see them. I tell them yes or no if they are correct or incorrect. 5. For the word problems I have highlighted the key words for you, and I would like for you to read the problems to the students, and then have them highlight the key words in the problem.

10:00-10:45 Recess, Snack, and Read 1. 10:00- The bell will ring for recess. EVERY student is to go outside for recess. You need to walk them to the door for recess. The door is out the left of the room have Riley lead the class out. If he is absent Jacob or Aurora are good leaders. 2. 10:15- The bell will ring and you need to go pick up the students at the same doors you let them out at. Walk them into the classroom and tell them its snack time at their desks. (At North Elementary student must have healthy snacks. No cookies, chips, sugary juices, or candy) 3. 10:30- Gather the class to the back of the room. Pick 5 sticks and 4 students can sit on the couch and 1 on the bean-bag chair. Tell everyone else to find a responsible spot on the floor. We are

reading The Tale of Despereaux the book is on my desk book marked with a sticky note (I like these if you cant tell). Read to them until 10:45. 10:45-11:15 Walk to Read 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Pick two students in our group to pass out folders. Tell them to get in their 6 minute assessment spots. Let them know #2 will read first. There is a timer in my basket. Set it to one minute. Let the students know you are about to start the timer and to be ready to read. Start the timer. Say stop loud when it beeps. Have them mark their spot. Switch readers. It is now # 1s turn to read. Tell them to go back to their seats and record their words per minute on their graph and to put the icing on their cake (they know what this is). If they need help with their word count and icing Brett, Riley, Aurora, and Jacob know how to do this (they are good helpers).

When they are done they may play reading games. I have the games in the back of the room under the Amazing Words hanging. Send the students that arent in our class back to their room at 11:15 11:15-11:40- Spelling Test (If Mrs. Lawlers students are in the room have them read quietly while you give the spelling test. Sometimes she isnt in her room at this time) 1. In the reading book I have a sticky note on the page with the spelling list. Have students quickly return to their seats, get their folders up, and a piece of paper for their spelling test. They should number 1-15 along the left margin, and then put their name and number in the top right corner of the page. 2. Read the word twice, read the sentence to the right of the word, and then repeat the word. 3. Do 1-15. When done pencils down, folders down, collect the tests, and place them in my papers basket on the counter by the fridge. 11:40-12:20 LUNCH BREAK!! 1. Line students up. 2. David is the lunch basket carrier he goes first. Then the peanut butter and jelly eaters, and then I call them up by rows. I call them by their days of the week on the seating chart attached to this lesson plan. 3. You need to walk them down to the lunch room. It is in the gym. Walk out to the right of the classroom and keep walking down they will go right to the gym.

Relax and enjoy you break. The staff lounge is off to the left of the office downstairs. I have very nice coworkers dont be scared. If you want to stay in the room you may do that also. The bell will ring once at 12:00 releasing them to recess and again at 12:20 at the end of recess. You need to pick them up where you dropped them off at for morning recess. 12:20-12:45 AR read- Everyone!!!!-Mrs. Lawlers students will ask to leave. Tell them no that they need to stay and AR read also. 12:45-1:25 PE You need to walk them to gym and pick them up from gym. The gym is where you brought them for lunch. Enjoy your prep hour Let them use the bathroom and get drinks after you pick them up from gym. There are multiple bathroom stalls and two drinking fountains outside the gym. (This will take about 10 minutes) 1:35-2:00 Writers Workshop (There is lined paper on the podium for this assignment) 1. Currently they are working on a 4-square about what they are thankful for. 2. Some are finishing writing ideas while others have begun their rough drafts. 3. I want 3 ideas for the first 3 squares and a complete sentence for their wrap up. 4. Once they have shown you their 4 square and you have corrected their spelling then they may begin their rough draft. Remind them that the only complete sentence in their 4 square is in their wrap up. 5. Their topic sentence should go something like this: I am thankful for many things. It doesnt have to be verbatim but something close to that. 6. Remind them that I expect 2-3 complete sentences for each of the 3 squares. a. Their sentences should not all begin with the same word. b. They need to have a capital and punctuation for it to be a complete sentence. 7. When they finish their drafts (they probably wont) collect them and put them in the papers basket. 8. If at 2 there are people still working on their drafts tell them to put them in their writing folders and they can finish them on Monday. 2:00: Grab and go- They know what this is. Call them up by days of the week and tell them to put their homework folders in their back packs. Austen, Shyanne, and Quintyn have agendas that need to be signed. They dont have homework on Fridays but they still need their agendas signed. 2:00-3:00 Library Once they are all seated and ready to go line them up for the library. Have Quentin lead the way to the library. Walk with them to the library. Mary Beth the librarian will be waiting for them. Stay with them,

help them find books, and make sure they are behaving for Mary Beth. Start wrapping up their checkouts at 2:55. They need to check out or renew an AR book. 3:00 Get students ready to go home. If they are all ready tell them you are going to read to them. They may sit on their desks at this time and you can read them a few pages out of Desereaux. 3:15- Dismissal Thank you very much for subbing for me today. I hope everything went smoothly. If you didnt get everything done dont worry about it. Enjoy your weekend!
