Stage 3 Learning Plan


Learning Activities:
Engage The teacher will review place values (hundred millions, ten millions, millions, hundred thousands, ten thousands, thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones). The teacher will give the students a blank place value sheet. Elicit - The teacher will ask students to fill in the place values on a place value sheet. The teacher will ask students what the place values are starting at the left with the millions place value and moving right to the thousandths. The teacher will go over the place values with the students and introduce tenths, hundredths and thousandths. Explore Students will be given a filled in place value sheet. They will work with a partner to create two numbers on the sheet and practice saying the numbers to each other. Explain The teacher will discuss how reading decimals correctly will help them to be able to write the written form of the decimal. The teacher will explain how knowing how to write the written and standard forms can help in life (e.g. writing a check). Students will practice writing a check with written and standard forms. Elaborate & Extend The teacher will write the standard form of a decimal on the board. Students will read the number aloud. The teacher will write the written form of the decimal on the board. Students will read aloud the written form of the decimal. Students will practice writing the standard and written forms of decimals. Evaluate Students will complete a Quick Key exit ticket.
