At What Point Does it Stop? Jenna is a 33-year-old Caucasian teacher in a masters level multicultural class at a small private university.

Jenna has fifteen students that after the first ni!ht of class all appear to "e interested in learnin! and e#cited to "e counselors in trainin!. Jenna has successfully started "uildin! a !ood rapport $ith each student in class and is happy $ith ho$ her first ni!ht of class turned out. %he second of seven classes $as a lecture ni!ht for Jenna. %he class all "ut one $as attentive to the lecture. &o"in a '( year-old African American student "rou!ht food to class and proceeded to eat her dinner durin! the lecture. Jenna found it odd that a student $ould eat a full meal in the middle of her class "ut did not $ant to call attention to the student and ma)e her feel self-conscious so she i!nored the food. %he follo$in! $ee) Jenna sho$ed a thirty-minute film clip to reinforce the lecture from the previous $ee). Jenna as)ed the students to $atch and "e prepared to discuss after the film. %en minutes into the film Jenna notices that &o"in has laid her head do$n and has appeared to fall asleep. Jenna !ently lays her hand on &o"ins shoulder and nud!es her sli!htly to !et her attention and as)s her to please stay a$a)e durin! class. %he fourth ni!ht Jenna pairs the class up to allo$ the students to practice their clinical s)ills $ith each other. Jenna has an odd num"er of students in her class so she as)s the class to ma)e one !roup of three students. &o"in is part of the !roup of three students and Jenna su!!ests that they each rotate parts to each everyone a chance to practice. After several minutes into the e#ercise Jenna notices that &o"in has set up a mirror on the des) and is applyin! ma)eup. Jenna is $al)in! throu!h the class to see

ho$ each !roup is doin! and $hen she !ets to &o"ins !roup they tell her that &o"in opted to not participate. Durin! "rea) on the fifth ni!ht of class *on! a '+ year old Chinese student tells Jenna that &o"in has told him that she has ta)en four ,- m! .panas "efore class and is havin! a hard time stayin! a$a)e. Jenna )eeps a $atchful eye on &o"in durin! the last part of class and $onders if she should approach &o"in directly and as) her a"out the dru! use. &o"in does not e#hi"it do anythin! out of character so Jenna decides to leave the information alone and not address it. .n the si#th ni!ht of class Jenna assi!ned each student to dra$ out their o$n !eno!ram and present it to the class on the final ni!ht. %he final ni!ht of class &o"in /umped at the chance to present her !eno!ram first. &o"in starts off her presentation $ith a Po$erPoint a"out the history of her familys ori!in and sits on top of the des) durin! the presentation. &o"in "rin!s up a lar!e display of her !eno!ram and Jenna as)ed &o"in some specific 0uestions a"out her $or). &o"in "ecame immediately "elli!erent yellin! at Jenna for 0uestionin! her $or). Jenna as)ed &o"in to step into the hall$ay to discuss the matter and &o"in started cussin! Jenna out $hile standin! in front of the class.
