LESSON IDEA: WEBSITE-CREATION TOOLS Name: Caprice Mays Directions: Using the template below, describe how students

could use a blog, wiki, or other websitecreation tool to learn required learning standards in your content area: For an A grade provide an idea that reaches a Level of Technology Implementation of 4 or above. Remember higher levels (4-6) require that students assume adult/professional roles; engage in higher-order thinking; and use technology create/publish original content for their classmates and/or others beyond their school/classroom. The learning activities and products should be engaging and meaningful to the students and to others who will view/use/benefit from students work. Review your handouts on Engaged Learning, Authenticity, and LoTi. Grade Level: 2nd Grade Content Area: Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts Technology Used (check all that apply): Blog Wiki Other Website Creation Tool (list):

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed: ELACC2W6 Production and Distribution of Writing: With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers. ELACC2SL1 Comprehension and Collaboration: Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 2 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups. ELACC2SL6 Presentation of Knowledge and Ideas: Produce complete sentences when appropriate to task and situation in order to provide requested detail or clarification. ELACC2L2 Conventions of Standard English: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. ELACC2L3 Knowledge of Language: Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening. Brief Description of Learning Experience: Multiple ELA standards are addressed by allowing students to use blogs. Students and teachers both are able to make blogs. For example, teacher can make a classroom blog to kept students and parents up to date on what is going on in the classroom. Students as well can make blogs for educational uses stuff as group projects. For my classroom I will create a classroom blog and I will allow my students to group up and create their own page to add to our classroom blog (one page per group). I will introduce this activity to the class during the first few days of school. I will first show the class what I have created of the blogs so far then I will group the students up and tell them that they now get to be creative and make their very own page to add to our classroom blog. Our classroom blog should take about one week to complete because I will allow each group a day in which it is their turn to add their page. The students will get about 45 minutes worth of time to complete their page. Being that this is our classroom room blog our audience will be the students themselves, the students parents and/or guardians and our schools administration. LESSON IDEA: WEBSITE-CREATION TOOLS Student Engagement: The indicators of engaged learning that are strong are collaborative, flexible, and students are the producers of their work. These are all very strong indicators because the students are the one interacting with each other to come up with page themes, what should and should not be added and ect. The students are creating and producing their own work. Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): What LoTi would this lesson be and Why?(See Engaged Learning handout distributed earlier this semester.) LoTi level is a 5 because students are creating there blog pages themselves. Importance of technology: Why is using a website-creation tool critical to the project? Could the project be completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of technology, if any, are going to be used in the learning experience? Since this is a online blog website-creation tool was very critical. Continuing no this project could not have been done without technology because without it the entire blog would be lost. Inspiration (optional):

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Some parents may not approve of their children using the internet. Some teachers and administrators may believe that blogs take away from school learning time or that these projects may not be teaching students the material they need to learn. Parents, teachers and administration may also worry about the safety and privacy of their child/students while using these sites. To address some of these concerns the teachers who do decide to use blogs need to show/prove that the projects and sites being used are safe for students to use. Teachers should also ensure parents that if they do not approve of having their child or childs work published on the blog it will not be published! Also, to minimize safety risk the students will be monitored at all times when on the blog site and only first names will be published with students work. Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I am trying to get the students involved in the ever changing world of technology while still educating them about important topics and internet safety. I hope that this will help the students learn that school and learning are fun. Other comments about your proposed activity:
