2013 This writing was an opinion essay assigned with two different topics. The topic I choose to write about was if video games could be literature. During this time in class we were just introduced to the three metaphors of literacy presented by Sylvia Scribner and also there was a quote written on the board by Robert Ebert saying Video games can never be art. The courses introduction was about literacy so we had to state our opinion on video games being literature by incorporating Eberts and Scribners works. The essay had to be double-spaced and two and a half pages in length. I enjoyed writing the paper because Ive never been a big video game fanatic so I had to change my mindset in order to form my opinion. Once you really think about it video games can display some form of literature. September 22nd, 2013 On this day our final draft of our literacy memoir was due. During this time in class we were talking about the cultural, intellectual, and environmental differences of literacy in peoples lives. Our homework assignments were the Malcolm X and Sherman Alexie readings with the questions. The literacy memoir had to be about a time in our life were something affected our literacy. The events in Xs and Alexies life gave us examples of their literacy events which helped shape our paper. The paper was written in a first person point of view because we were telling a story about our life to the reader. The readers in this case were our peers and the teacher. I also enjoyed writing this piece

Logan 2 because it made me reflect on my life which is difficult to do. I had never thought of one my major literacy events and this assignment made me remember and think about this event. October 11th, 2013 This was an in-class assignment where we had to write about a time were our discourse made all the difference. During this time in class we were discussing a persons discourse and choice of words in different environments. My in-class writing was about being influenced by my grandmothers southern slang and how sometimes my friends didnt understand what I was saying because our discourse was different. I enjoyed this assignment because I knew that the audience would enjoy my discourse. Its quite funny to everyone who encounters it and I knew that people would understand why once I explained it. Overall Before this class I never enjoyed an English class or writing and revising papers. We have written a lot of things in class and it has not bothered me yet. I think this is because the material is current and its from everyday life events. Its not just f rom some literature book thats very strict in lessons. This course is teaching us that you can enjoy writing and revising off of topics that relate to you.
