I am laced in an I!" #irst grade classroom. My #irst observed lesson $as a science lesson. I taught the class the revious day about the #our di##erent habitats, $hich are #orest, ocean, $etland and desert. %o #or my #ormal observation I $ent into de th on the #orest habitat. "he lesson $as being taught so that students $ould be able to identi#y animals and lants that are in the #orest habitat. I started my lesson having the students come to the rug. I had re ared a short smart board resentation about the #orest and the di##erent animals, lants and $ater$ays that can be #ound in that habitat. It $as an interactive resentation& I had many di##erent students come u to hel . I used the ' o sicle stic() method, $here I ulled random *o sicle stic(s out $ith a students name to come u and artici ate to ma(e sure everyone $as aying attention. "here $ere some roblems $ith the smart board, but that is something that is out o# control o# the teacher. I #eel I dealt $ith the technology mal#unctions +ust #ine. I made light o# the situation and (e t going on $ith my lesson. "he smart board resentation I believe $ent $ell. It engaged the students and they $ere interested in seeing $hich ictures o# animals, lants and $ater$ays belonging in the #orest. "hey seemed e,cited to learn $hich $as great. "hroughout the *o$er*oint I $as revie$ing $hat $e discussed the slide be#ore to ma(e sure they understood $hat $as being taught. -#ter #inishing the lesson on the rug I e, lained that $e $ere going to brea( u into di##erent grou s to do di##erent activities. I e, lained each activity individually and listed o## the members in each grou and then a#ter I #inished e, laining all the grou s I sent them bac( grou by grou to start their

assignment. "his art o# my lesson became a little cra.y, but I #elt this $as the best $ay to brea( the class u and e, lain all the activities. I bro(e the class into #ive grou s. One grou $as the E%/ students $ho labeled di##erent animals and lace them into their habitat. "his activity I #elt $as great #or the E%/ students. "hey needed to #ind the animal name and lace it ne,t to the animal. One o# the teachers $or(ed $ith this small grou . "he ne,t grou $as the lo$est level students. "hey $ere given several di##erent ictures o# animals, lants and they $ill need to sort through the choices to see $hich belong $ithin the #orest habitat and $hich did not. "his activity $as good #or these students, but maybe a little to easy. 0e,t time I $ill ma(e sure to ma(e their activity a little harder. "he ne,t grou o# students $as the highest leveled students $ould be com leting a boo(let $here they $ill need to #ill out #acts about the #orest and then dra$ their #avorite animals #rom the #orest and $rite its name. "his $as a er#ect activity #or this grou . "hey $ere able to $rite a #e$ things and dra$ a icture. "he last t$o grou s $ere the medium level students $ithin the class. "hey created a #orest habitat oster $ith di##erent lants and animals. "hey $ill be given a #e$ incorrect animals& they $ill need to (no$ to not include them on their oster. "his activity I believe $as er#ect #or this grou . "hey needed to reali.e $hich animals belonged and $hich did not. -#ter the decided $hich animals they $ere going to include they $ere also lacing them in the correct areas. "hey $ere lacing ictures o# birds on the trees and the deer and such on the grass. Be#ore starting the activities I made sure they understood that $e $ere a 'team) and $e are $or(ing together and sharing everything. 1hile all o# the grou s $ere $or(ing, Ms. Finlan and mysel# $ere $al(ing around hel ing all o# other grou s. -#ter #inishing the assignments, I had everyone come bac( together on the rug. Once everyone $as sitting 2uietly on the

rug I had each grou stand u and share $hat they com leted. "his $as a great $ay #or them to have a chance to sho$ their $or( and #eel roud o# their $or(. "his also hel ed them #eel more com#ortable s ea(ing in #ront o# their eers. -s a teacher this $as a great $ay to assess the students understanding. I believe overall my lesson $as success#ul and my ob+ective $as met. I #eel I as(ed a ro riate 2uestions throughout my smart board resentation. I also believe I di##erentiated my lesson e,tremely $ell. -ll the activities I had lanned $ere a ro riate #or each student.
