City College of Chicago finds Solution for Federal Governments Funding Cut to Work-Study Program

CHICAGO, Ill. -- All federally funded colleges and universities will be impacted by the governments decision last month to cut funding by 5% to work-study programs. After much consideration, CCC has decided rather than eliminating any of our student staff, we will implement a 5 percent decrease in hours to compensate for the governments cutback. We feel our students will be better served by this decision, said Meghan Rowe, Director of work-study at the City College of Chicago. I am thankful I get to keep my job even though my hours are cut. Between school and dance its hard to find a job that works around my hours, said Sarah Johnson, a sophomore dance major. City College currently has enrolled roughly 15,000 students, while their work-study program employs approximately 20 percent of them. The schools decision will save over 150 student jobs on campus. ###
