Mechanical Engineering

Vol. 1 Issue 1

Mechanical engineering involves designing, developing, and manufacturing equipment that can complete a task efficiently. This is a relatively broad field of study and mechanical engineers can work in power, environment, healthcare, etc. Mechanical engineers include testing devices seen in combustion engines, power plants, etc. Mechanical engineers must plan out parts of a machine to go together as a whole. This can be often done by using 3D CAD software such as Solidworks. Some Key Classes at Northeastern: 1. Measurement and Analysis with Thermal Science Application 2. Thermodynamics 3. Mechanical Engineering Computation and Design 4. System Analysis and Control Typical Co-op Job Titles: 1. Medical Devices 2. Product Development and Consulting 3. Energy Efficiency and Alternative Energy 4. Robotics Some Co-op Companies: General Electric, Raytheon, Gillette Company, Analogic Corporation Starting Salary: $62,900

GE 1000 Reference Document Dear Professor Reisberg,

As your former student in GE1000- Introduction to Engineering, I have created a short reference document that I feel would be beneficial for current freshman students currently enrolled in GE1000. Currently I am an engineering peer mentor for the GE1000 class, and I have noticed many students are unaware of what each of the engineering disciplines consists. Therefore, I have created this informative guide on each of the engineering disciplines available here at Northeastern University. As the Assistant Dean of the College of Engineering, I was hoping you could get these informational notices distributed among the GE1000 classes.

The distribution of this information will help freshman students decide among the majors in the College of Engineering. Additionally, the students will be able to make an informed decision and get a sneak peek into what life will typically consist of after graduating with an engineering degree. This information can help save students the time and turmoil of needing to switch majors longer down the line.

Thank you for your time and consideration of utilizing this new resource. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns feel free to reach me. Best Regards, Crystal Oseagulu
