Classroom Management Plan Miss. Lindsay I. General Procedures a. Beginning of Period i.

Attendance check Students will enter classroom and take their assigned seats in an orderly yet quiet manner. During this time students should take out their books and homework assignments to be ready when class begins. Once the bell has rung for class to begin the teacher will take attendance and return any tests or homework assignments. ii. Previously absent students If a student is absent from a class it will be the students responsibility to check the weekly work folder located on the desk in the back of the room to pick up missed assignments. You will have two days from the day the student returns to class to complete the missed assignment(s). This paperwork will need to be placed in the box marked missed work on the corner of the teachers desk. If work is not returned within the two days allowed the student will not be allowed to make-up the missed assignments and a zero (0) will be given on that particular assignment missed. iii. Tardy students If a student is tardy for class they will be admitted to class with a note/pass from the front office. If a student is tardy for class without a note the following will apply; first tardy will be given a warning, second tardy will require student to talk with teacher in hall and explain reason for tardy and third tardy student will receive a call home to parents to discuss. iv. Expected behaviors All students will be required to act in a manner that is respectful not only to themselves but other students. No food will be allowed but 1 bottled water on desk or floor is permitted per student per class period. No chewing gum will be allowed in class. No cell phones will be allowed during class time and should be kept in book bag and turned off during class. In case of an emergency please notify the teacher. b. Out of Room Policies i. Bathroom, Water and Tissue - Students will be assigned a bathroom pass that will be punched each time they ask to use the bathroom. Three punches will be allowed per 9 weeks with this pass. At the end of the 9 week period for every punch not used the student will be given a point which will be added to their final test score. The maximum number of points the student can acrue is 3. ii. Office, Nurse and Counselor A student will be allowed to leave the classroom with a pass should the need arise but only at the discretion of the teacher. iii. Exceptions Based on the teachers discretion a student can be granted special permission to leave the class depending on each individuals circumstance. The teacher also reserves the right to deny a student a pass if the teacher so desires.

Materials and Equipment i. Equipment used in the classroom that is the property of the school will not be allowed to be used outside of the classroom. ii. Books used in the classroom are the property of the school and must be treated with respect and returned at the end of the school year in good condition. If a book is lost or returned in poor condition a fee will be incurred.

d. Ending of Period The teacher will instruct the class until the final bell rings notifying the end of the class period. There will be days that the teacher may allow students to start on homework and ask questions about the materials covered before the end of class. II. Seatwork and Instruction Procedures a. Student Attention i. Students will be required to sit at their desks during the class period unless directed by the teacher. Students will be required to sit up in their chairs during the class period. Should a student sleep during class they will be given 1 verbal warning with no consequence. If a second warning is given the student will be asked to stand up and walk around their desk and then sit down. If a third verbal warning is given the student will talk with teacher and the student will receive a call to their parents. b. Student Participation i. Class participation is a very important part of the classroom learning experience. Participation will count for 5% of the students final grade. If the teacher sees that a student is not participating in class discussions the teacher will discuss with the student. It is encouraged that the student discuss with the teacher if they feel uncomfortable with this kind of participation so the two can find a resolution. c. Seatwork Procedures i. Talk amongst students Students will be allowed to talk amongst themselves only at times designated by teacher such as group or partner work. If students are talking during tests this will be considered as cheating. It is highly encouraged that students talk freely during class when the teacher encourages students to participate in open discussions. ii. Obtaining help Students will be asked to raise their hand to ask for teachers assistance. iii. Out of Seat Students will be allowed to get out of their seats only when instructed by teacher. Student will dispose of trash or papers in trashcans as they exit the room. No student will be allowed to walk about the room as they desire. If a student needs to staple, 3 hole punch, get a pen or sharpen a pencil

the student will raise their hand and ask the teacher for assistance with these needs. When seatwork is complete Student will sit quietly when classwork is complete. Any paperwork to be turned in will be done so when directed. When completed work is finished it will be turned face down on the desk.

Student Group Work a. Use of Materials and Supplies i. If Group materials or supplies are needed from the activity shelf one person will be designated to retrieve those materials from each group. It will be the responsibility of the Group to clean up their work area and the responsibility of the appointed person the Group chose to return the materials and supplies to the activity shelf. b. Assignment of Students to Groups i. Group assignments will be made on various criteria. There will be times that the teacher will pick the group members directly and there will be times that the students will pick the members of each group themselves. Each group will be assigned a Captain who will lead the selection process based on who has the highest last test score in each group. c. Student Participation and Behavior i. All students will be expected to participate in group discussions and contribute something useful to the group as a whole. If there are issues within the group and should the group decide that the teacher needs to adjust the group members it will be at the discretion of the teacher to do so. The teacher will make all final decisions on the members of each group. Miscellaneous a. Class Rules i. Students and teachers will develop a Class Moto for each class period. Each class handbook will vary from class to class, b. Daily Protocols i. Each student will receive a packet of materials prior to the week of class detailing the objectives of class for the next week. Each student will be expected to have read these objectives and returned to class with an idea of what will be discussed. c. Levels of Consequences i. *Please reference School Handbook for School Guidelines. Students will be required to follow the Schools Student Handbook and the schools disciplinary actions will apply. Students will also receive a verbal warning from the teacher if the Handbook rules are broken. If this offense happens a second time the student will receive detention hall. On the third offense the student will be sent

to the Administrative Office for disciplinary action based on the School Handbook.

d. Intervention Strategies i. Students with behavior problems will first receive a verbal warning. If a student receives a second warning the students guardian will receive a phone call or email to discuss. If the problem continues the Administration Office will be involved. e. Preventive Behavior Management & Motivation Techniques i. Students will be part of a reward system for turning their homework in completed on a weekly basis. The student will receive a check each time an assignment is completed and turned in to the teacher. For students that receive 10 12 checks for completed homework in a 9 week period they will be rewarded with 3 extra points added to their final test score. For students receiving 5-8 checks they will receive 2 extra points and students receiving 1-3 checks they will receive 1 extra point to their final test score. ii. On Fridays of each week the students in the last class of the day will be required to prepare the class for the next weeks classes. Whether it be cleaning boards, throwing out papers, or straightening class for the next weeks activities, this will give students a sense of ownership and pride for their class and each other. f. Behavior during Interruptions i. Students will be required to act in a mature manner and proceed with homework or completing classwork if teacher should be interrupted for whatever reason that might be. If a student is disruptive during this time and cannot follow this procedure they will be given a warning. If this should happen a second time a call home to their guardian will follow. g. Fire and Disaster Drill i. Students are required during any Emergency Management Drills to follow the schools policy and procedures. If a student does not follow these guidelines they will be required to stay in after school detention. h. Lockers Students will be assigned lockers which they can only visit during class periods. Students can be permitted to go their lockers only on a case by case basis at the teachers discretion. Implementation Plan This plan will be provided to each student and will be read in its entirety on the first day of class. Each student will be required to sign the Classroom Plan as an Agreement. Each student will be required to take the Plan home to read and discuss with their Guardian who will also be required to sign that they understand the terms and agreements. This will enlighten students and guardians as to the expectations required of the student from the first day of class. The signed Agreement will be kept in a binder in the classroom for easy access should there ever be any questions

what the Classroom Plan is for each student. If there are any parts of this plan that the students feel need to be changed, the teacher is willing to listen to those recommendations and make changes to the plan if she feels they are appropriate and will benefit the production and educational opportunity for each student.
