Prepositions Mini Lesson

Rationale: The students will understand how to use parts of speech (prepositions) to enhance their writing skills.

Process: 1. The video clip is showing the main character running on a map demonstrating prepositions (ex. Over the mountain). 2. Define prepositions on the board so students can write it in their ELA journal. Ask students to give examples of prepositions now that they know the definition. 3. Watch the video clip again and during the clip have students identify the preposition they see. 4. Explained how words such as for and to also show location to a noun, but are not as obvious as words such as below and above. 5. Have each student write a sentence using a preposition. The student reads it to the class and the class has to identify the preposition.

Accommodations:
1. For an ELL child, the video clip is a visual to help illustrate examples of prepositions. To further demonstrate the concept, the students played Leap Frog and called out prepositions. Riley jumped over Aria. Aria is in front of Riley.

Enrichment/Extension:
Since the students are also working on dialogue, have students write a dialogue between two characters using prepositions. The will also be required to use prepositions in their narrative writing.
