403 16 November, 2013 iPhone Provides Better Customer Experience Than Android High-end Smartphone

When you browse news about electronics, you are very likely to see some cartoon pictures with an apple (the Apple Incs logo) and a green robot (called Android, mascot of the Android system): the Android may be trying to eat the apple, or they are fighting with weapons. But these cute pictures are not just for fun. As a matter of fact, iOS and Android are the two main operating systems for smartphones, and they are continually developing their systems to beat each other. Both of them have unique features. For instance, Android is known for its open source and customizable feature, meanwhile iOSs elegant design and perfect services has appealed plenty of followers. On the other hand, many customers have shown great passion on buying high-end smartphones. The website, Mobile Youth, did a research and they found that Youth have the biggest need for the latest handsets and are willing to pay top dollar for smartphones(Brown). The research also reveals that iPhone is the most popular phone for the 18-32 years olds with 25% ownership, compared to 21% Samsung and 5% Blackberry (Brown). iPhone and Android high-end smartphones (such as Samsung S4 and HTC One) have the similar prices and they all contain the latest technology. Therefore, consumers may feel confused of which type could provide better customer experience. Personally, I used to love

Tao 2 Android for its easy operation and customizable modules. When I first got my iPad (also runs iOS), I felt frustrating because it was hard to import music from my computer and iTunes (it is used to play and download, developed by Apple Inc) always show that it could not connect to my device. But now I find that iPhone generally provides better customer experience than Android high-end smartphones. iOS has more practical services like Today Find my iPhone, also it is securer than Android. Besides, iPhone is like an artwork with its elegant appearance where it feels like every detail has been carefully designed. Apples latest system, iOS 7, is striking for its colorful background and the simple style and the most fluid version than ever. Therefore, with iPhone, not only can you be benefit from its perfect services, but also you will feel satisfied with its design which makes your experience more enjoyable. Some people may argue that Android has strength in several modules like quick settings notifications where iOS once fallen behind. But right now the new iOS 7 has added more parts and even caught up a bit. According to Coldewey, a writer for NBC News Digital who compares the two systems side by side, states that both iOS and Android have Control Center but Apples version is a bit more comprehensive and attractive(Coldewey). Because on iOS, the quick setting buttons contain visual icons with the colorful background, users can directly adjust the brightness and control music which are absent on some Android devices. Besides, The rich notifications system is one of Androids strength which Apple lacked for years. But now iOS has caught up with more categories and details. Apple added the Today part in the notification drawer. It takes inspiration from the predictive Google Now, and seems like a great way to start your day: calendar, weather, stocks and so on (Coldewey). So the refined

Tao 3 features on iOS 7 will act like a great assistant for your daily life, that is, more humanized and more comprehensive. Another Apples handy innovation is iCloud, which stores users data automatically in a secure way and keeps ones email, contacts, and calendars up to date across all the devices (Jauhari). Thus individual data can be stored on the credible cloud and users have access to them anytime they need. Therefore, the new features on iOS 7 are more pragmatic and comprehensive, which any other phones do not contain-you can only see and enjoy these incomparable innovations on iPhone. As the increasing use of smartphones, the security issue has drawn publics attention. At this point, iOS is apparently securer than Android. In the Kaspersky Labs latest report, Of the nearly 500 million attacks detected in the third quarter of this year, a staggering 97.5 percent were targeted at Android (Satpathy). This finding is echoed by Warwick Ashford, who states in his academic essay that although iOS and android are even in terms of vulnerabilities, Android is definitely where the action is when it comes to malware.(qtd. in Rik Ferguson, 5) Ashford also explains that Androids vulnerable is due to its openness system which allows third-party app store as well as the lack of prior examination of applications (Ashford, 5). Meanwhile, Steve Gold reveals another reason why Android has been a magnet for various malware. The software makers can easily upload their software to Google Market after paying a $25 registration fee and having a few simple checks. Unlike the Apples App Store, the Market is not actively policed for errant apps (Gold). Google tend to remove the malware only after they are reported by victims, therefore many malware developers gain profit from the attack and they would continue the work on the malware develop. The majority of malware is

Tao 4 designed to steal money or private information. Recently the security experts discovered a new malware called Svpeng Torjan, which is able to gain the users bank account and after checking the account through mobile banking service, the cybercriminals will receive the money directly from the users account (Satpathy). In comparison, iOS is less likely to be attacked by malware. In iOS 7, we can see Apples new strategy to create a more safety system for its users. Apple Store tend to fully vet applications before they are available to consumers, and in this way the iPhone users are effectively protected from widespread malware infection. (When Malware Goes Mobile) One principle which contributes to Apples security system is: The more you impede a user's ability to do something, the more likely that user is to circumvent security measures(Mogull, 96). Thus iOS is relatively closed than Android. Apple makes great effort on improving users experience and help users adopt the technology and stay safer. Until very recently, Apple's extremely useful "Find My iPhone" improved the assurance of the security. Once your iPhone is lost or stolen, they could be located, wiped or remotely told to ring loudly (Coldewey). We can see here that Apple pays closer attention to security issue, they are continually providing new services to protect their users personal information as well as increase the customer experience. Apple is a powerful company which stands for innovation and creativity. In 2012, Apple has been named as the world's most admired company by Fortune Magazine for the 5th year in a row (Jauhari). As a high-tech company, not only does Apple succeed in creating phones, but also focus on designing advanced computers, iPod and iPad, etc. Therefore, with

Tao 5 the big product family, iPhone certainly contains Apples latest innovations. iPod once had a great vogue for its great sound quality and technology, now this advantages strengthen the media function on iPhone. As Coldewey states, Apple's iPod legacy lives on here, and the music and video functions on iOS are better than ever and certainly better than Android (Coldewey). Apple also focuses on complete user experiences not just the product features. To ensure the effectively function of iPhone's tiny antenna, Apple spent millions to test rooms with special robot-equipped. To reduce the radiation that iPhone generates, Apple built models to simulate humans brain density and did experiment (Jauhari). Apple spares no effort to build distinctive user experience, no wonder when the first generation of iPhone was released; this product won praise around the world. iPhone always works smoothly, even the Apples old devices still run faster than many Android high-end smartphones. According to Agawis speed and responsiveness tests, even Apples two-year-old device, iPhone 4, responded to apps faster than the latest Android phones (Evans). The Arthur explains that when both hardware and software are developed by the same developer, the device would have better performance in running applications. And right now it is one of apples great advantages. Besides, Android devices depend on a complex Java hybrid to run apps, which is considered has an impact on app performance (Evans). This phenomenon is also discussed by Andrew Wray, a technical researcher, states that Googles Android often has a lagging or stuttering user interface (UI) compared to Apple's iOS. Android's way to deal with graphics and event processing makes the OS less fluid (Wray). The Arthur also posts two Androids design constrains: UI rendering occurs on the main

Tao 6 thread of an app and UI rendering has normal priority (Wray). Waiting for our phones to run apps is a waste of time and may be annoying, so we need a phone that acts smoothly. And we can see that iPhone is at the leading position at this point. Although Android has advantages with its open sources and customizable features, its insecurity will certainly cause troubles to the consumers. Sometimes when you install an application, the system would remind you that it will use your location information and may cause bills in your account. But since we really need to use that application, we tend to ignore such warn and even do not realize that this action may be causing a potential risk around us since there are so many malware on Android market. The apps on iPhone are certainly more reliable than that on Android, so with iPhone, we can install any apps we like without worrying about whether it will be a danger. Whats more, iPhone is more fluid and lasting which also provides perfect services and enjoyable experience. Therefore, if you are still feeling confused about which type provides better customer experience, iPhone is certainly your best option.
