JV White Knights Warm-up Routine

Pre-Practice Activity:
− QB / Center snap exchange practice. 20 snaps minimum with each QB/C combination. Set
expectation that QB and Centers arrive 15 minutes early.
− Special Teams Practice – punters and kickers work on technique with coach
− All others – thrower / receiving with two lines facing each other. QBs move to this drill after done
practicing snaps. Until then have coach or qualified backup do the throwing.

Calisthenics / Warm-up Drills:

The idea here is the following:
− Speed up the process of organizing and
tracking the team
− Include football drills as part of the warm-
up to reinforce good form (stance and
tackling)
− Complete all warm-ups in 10 minutes to
move onto “real” practice
− Avoid artificial conditioning and warm-up
work that isn't really needed for kids this
age. Let's get their heart rates up, do some
basic stretching.
Process:
− Start with buddy jogging around field for
initial warm-ups.
− Have the kids line up with their buddies,
facing each other 20 yards apart. From
here we do dynamic warm-ups with high
knees, butt kickers, backpedal, and lunges. In all cases we do the activity for 10 yards until the
buddies meet in the middle, slap hands, then turn to sprint out back to their starting spot.
− After dynamic warmups, kids follow their captains. Do the following:
− Knight jacks
− Cherry pickers
− 3 point stance drill – proper stance, checked by coach, hold until cleared by coach.
− Break into 1st and 2nd offense, run plays on air simultaneously, possibly with push-ups in end-zone,
starting from 30 yard line. Coach calls cadence to keep things moving.
