Savior From: Nick Miele Date: December 8, 2013 Subject: Coalition for Health and Exercise Science Recommendation Report Dear Dr. Savior, The coalition for Health and Exercise Science has developed a recommendation report that explains why health related issues are becoming a more serious problem. This report will explain how the Coalition for Health and Exercise Science are addressing the issues and how we have begun to help alleviate these matters from affecting our society. Our doctors and researchers have put together a plan that will help us to establish a strong foundation not only in our own country, but others as well.

Introduction The purpose of this report is to cover the issues and resolutions that have come across our plate in the recent years. Currently we are working with numerous other countries to implement a way of life that is healthier and more reasonable for the citizens who are eager to try our methods. We will also discuss the event that was hosted by our organization. Through your generous efforts, I am pleased to tell you that the fundraising event we put on was a success. Obesity and Diabetes are diseases that are influenced heavily by diet and exercise. This report will explain why the Coalition for Health and Exercise Science is crucial to the well being of individuals who may be at risk or suffering from these diseases. Description The topic of diabetes and obesity is an issue that continues to affect the American way of life everyday. Currently over one third of the Adults in the United States are obese. These trends have been occurring since the early 1980s allowing these diseases to progress over time. Aware of this knowledge the Coalition for Health and Exercise Science are committed to reducing these rates and creating a healthier lifestyle for the people who want to be helped. Another issue that we are looking to resolve is how much the U.S government is spending on men and women who are suffering from obesity. Obesity alone costs the U.S government $147 billion dollars a year. To put this in perspective, a

3 man or woman who is overweight will have on average a yearly check up bill of $1,429 more than a man or woman who does not suffer from this disease. Another disease that we as an organization are looking to help reduce is Diabetes. There are currently 25.8 million or 8.3% of people in the United States who suffer from diabetes. This disease is sometimes genetic, but can also be linked to poor diet and lack of exercise. We are taking it upon ourselves at the Coalition for Health and Exercise Science to help decrease the chance of individuals who can contract this disease. We consider ourselves to be an up and coming global organization that has the ability to affect people all over the world. Where we are helping people eat healthier and exercise in the United States, we are looking to also improve eating habits in areas such as the Middle East and Africa. Although these problems lie on two different sides of the spectrum, we believe that we can successfully help each group of people. Although it will be a long and tough road, we are eager to begin influencing different cultures around the world, and show that them that we are not just a front, but really want to help. Rationale As obesity and diabetes is becoming more and more common in the United States, people are beginning to look at these issues as normal. This is unacceptable. We at the Coalition for Health and Exercise Science refuse to allow individuals to accept a nonhealthy lifestyle without being properly educated. We feel that it is our duty to inform the

4 public of the dangers of these diseases. Many Americans and folks from other nationalities do not understand the severity of these conditions. Obesity carries with it many side effects that you may not know exist. Some of these include high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, gall bladder disease, gallstones, osteoarthritis, gout, breathing problems, and asthma. It is incredible to see how a problem that affects 1/3 of all the adults in the United States can create so many problems. It is specifically because of these issues that we are trying to show awareness for this disease. Obesity can also be caused because of genetics. We are trying to inform our clients and others about this, and help them to prevent these genes from becoming active. Our researchers and doctors have been studying these conditions for years, and have come to the conclusion that with proper nutrition and exercise, maintaining a fit body is achievable. Everything must be done in moderation though. Although we encourage healthy eating, we do not want our clients consuming insane amounts of healthy calories in one sitting. The next disease that we have dedicated much of our time to is diabetes. Diabetes is a disease that affects more and more men and women every year. Much like obesity,

5 diabetes is a disease that we have committed to living with rather than trying to prevent it entirely. The conditions that can be associated with diabetes is sleep apnea, hemochromatosis, Hepatitis B, Frozen Shoulder, HIV/AIDS, and Agent Orange. The side effects of diabetes are much more severe than obesity, but there are some resemblances. Diet and exercise is key to preventing diabetes. Even if diabetes runs in your family, consistent exercise and eating in moderation can be the difference between experiencing a life with or without the hardships of a diabetic. Methodology The research that we have conducted at the Coalition for Health and Exercise was done by hosting numerous events in the cities that we are located in. We invited numerous members and their friends to stop by so we could inform them about the importance of a nutritious diet and how it can lead to a healthier lifestyle. Once members attended the event we were hosting, we had doctors and researchers talk to them about eating and exercise habits that they had created throughout their life. We then proceeded in offering input and showing them scientific proof of how changing their diet could lead to an improved lifestyle. Other methods that we used was involving star athletes such as Peyton Manning and Adrian Peterson. Both of these men had suffered severe injuries throughout their career allowing weight about the of having functions such as their words to carry more organization. The importance professional athletes speak at these is because the public

6 looks at these figures as superstars. If star role models Manning and Adrian Peterson are endorsing a lifestyle the reception from the public will be such as Peyton healthy much

higher than if a doctor was to say it. We at the Coalition for Health and Exercise Science believe that this method of informing is the most direct and efficient way of getting our message across. The final way that our research was conducted was in the lab. We have numerous doctors and researchers who work around the clock for us, and have dedicated their lives to helping us reduce the rates at which obesity and diabetes are affecting this country. We used athletes such as Peyton and Adrian to identify how their own personal nutritional intake correlates to the average man and woman. Although these individuals are constantly exercising, we came to the conclusion that the amount of daily exercise to maintain a fit body is quite small. Walking 1-2 miles or jogging 0.5 miles will have the same effect on the body. We here at the Coalition are not asking our clients to go out and exhaust themselves, but rather incorporate small doses of exercise into their daily habits to become healthier individuals. Event Description Each year the Coalition for Health and Exercise Science puts on a large-scale fundraiser that greatly contributes to the success of the organization. This years event

7 took place in Albuquerque New Mexico at Balloon Fiesta Park. I am pleased to announce that because of your donations the event was a success. We were able to raise over $25,000,000 dollars over the course of the weeklong event and even had guest appearances from Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerburg, and Larry Fitzgerald. These guests of honor were able to demonstrate why a healthy and nutritious lifestyle is important to becoming a successful businessman or athlete. The event also provided attendees with the opportunity to become a part of our organization. Through different levels of donations, members would receive prizes and benefits within the company. We here at the Coalition for Health and Exercise Science appreciate your generosity and look forward to working with you again in the near future. Recommendation We are proposing a new way to help alleviate the increase in obesity and diabetes that is taking this country by storm. Doctors and Researchers are developing new and advanced techniques, which will allow us to scan body fat percentages much quicker and give us an accurate reading of what crucial nutrients are missing from the body. These scans will allow us to be more swift in analyzing the people we are helping and enable us to help more people over time. One of the first things that need to be done is educating the people who work for us. If the people at our own organization are not knowledgeable about the material that they are presenting, we will struggle to maintain clients and achieve our goals. It is crucial that our doctors and researchers take time out of their day to educate

8 our field agents an explain to them specifically how diabetes and obesity is affecting the American culture. Secondly we have to be more than just an organization that talks about helping. We want our actions to speak louder than our words. We here at the Coalition for Health and Exercise Science base our progress off of the men and women that we diagnose and bring back to health. We are more than just a company that informs people how to eat and stay healthy. We will monitor and address the issues that are holding them back from becoming healthy individuals. The third and last step that we must take in order to maintain a well-kept organization is expanding our corporation all over the globe. We have made a commitment to ourselves that we will not limit ourselves to just the United States. We feel an obligation to the American people, but we also understand that there are many more people around the world who need our help. If we are able to stay on track as we have been, this goal of becoming a global corporation will become a reality.

10 Reflection Many rhetorical devices can be seen throughout this paper. I have statistics. I have pictures, and I also have the audience who is able to see what I am talking about in everyday life. We as a society are well aware of how important healthy eating and exercise is. Walking through the grocery store can be an eye opening experience for us as we see just how severe these issues are becoming. The goal of this paper was to inform the audience about what can happen if exercise and eating properly are not done consistently. I believe that this assignment fits into the larger scale because it talks about issues that we as a society battle everyday. Obesity and diabetes are issues that we see people struggle with all the time. The insight that is given in this report allows viewers to understand the severity of these diseases and the conditions that they cause. I felt that this course (English 219) was one of the best that I have taken so far through college. It covered many areas of writing that I was oblivious to including grant and proposal writing. Up until this class I had no idea that the field I plan on going into would require these writing skills. Our instructor Matthew Tougas was excellent; he came to class with a positive attitude and really wanted us to understand the material he was presenting. He was clear with his instructions and direct about what he wanted from us. I personally felt that English 219 helped me more than I could have asked for. My writing skills have improved and my ability to analyze situations has greatly enhanced. Institutionally I feel that English 219 is supposed to give us an on the surface look at

11 different writing styles. The way this class was conducted allowed us to dive into each section and really improve our writing skills.
