XLIX Management Team David Grabowsky September 5, 2013 Response to Employee Expectations

In regards to some of the aspects of my learning style or work ethic I believe that some of my greatest concerns are finding finding ways to effectively time manage my work load and organizing myself in order to be better organize myself to keep track of upcoming and current assignmentsprepared for current and upcoming assignments. One of my largest problems thats has branched off from high school is work ethic. I am used to being able to finish all of my work in school and at the most spend an hour or two a week. I would never study outside of school nor would I make an attempt to review material. With the new focus on doing work outside of class that is present in college I realize that I need to change my work ethic and be more proactive. Also my time management skills are terrible if not non-existent. This is of course another factor that I intend to improve in order to be a more successful in college. For instance I intend to write all assignments down in a planer planner and every night organize due dates on a calendar so I can have a clear idea of what is due when and how much time I need to devote to what. I shall conquer these issues so that I can succeed in college and hit the ground with my feet running. Personally I believe that individual study and group or team study both have benefits and draw backs in terms of efficiency. Of the two however, I prefer individual study. The reason for this is that I like a quiet environment where I can hear myself think, or an environment in which there is some sort of loud rhythmic back ground, i.ece. Music, I find it easy to block out music as long as its the music without that many words in it, t o me this equates to a quit quiet back ground. In those two before mentioned backgrounds I find it much easier to read and process information as well as just do work in general. I would generally prefer individual study but hitting brick walls, or rather reaching points where I cant understand the work anymore poses a problem. Those are the instances in which I prefer group or team studies. I find that collaboration between the individuals on the team can generally increase the chances or understanding a topic that the members are struggling with. One member of the team or group may even already understand the topic and can help the other members to understand. Under most circumstances I believe that I am a good team member, however I often have difficulty asserting my ideas or opinions. In order to work better within a team I need to be able to assert my ideas and opinions. My ideas and opinions may be able to help the team with a project or problem it is currently working on. Therefore starting with the 1201 teams we were placed in I intend to start expressing my opinions and ideas more often. Before 1201 I always believed that practicing engineers only did a very minimum amount of writing. In fact the only time I really thought that engineers had to write things was when they were drawing up designs for projects. I now understand that engineers have to write as much as English majors if not more so. Engineering is not a writing free job, but that does not change how I feel about becoming an Engineer. If I need to learn to be a better writer to succeed as an Engineer so be it, its one more challenge to overcome. Please let me know if I can better clarify response or answer to any more questions. Sincerely,
