Whole Group Instruction

Whole group instruction is the practice of teaching a lesson instantaneously to the entire class. Whole class instruction usually provides the same assignments, directions, and expectations for students.

Small Group Instruction

Independent Work
Independent work or practice is the time where students work individually on a skill to reinforce the concept or to test their knowledge on something they just learned. During this time, students are to work alone and are to try to not seek help from others or the teacher. Independent work is a great way to informally assess students.

Small group instruction is the strategy when students are grouped together based on performance and ability levels. During small instruction, students will receive academic instruction tweaked to their learning levels to ensure they learn and master skills set by their abilities and pace.
