Memorandum ICO Witts Literacy Memoir

1) Subject: Witts Literacy memoir a) Objective: To inform both the class and the instructor the status of Patrick Witts Literacy memoir. i) This memo will brief ALCON on the following: (1) The current planning process (2) The writing progress (3) My current editing strategy (4) Any and all concerns ii) The current plan: As of right now I have no outline, rather I have chosen two events that will form the body of my memorandum. The events are as follow: (1) My time in high school when I became literate in construction, thanks to my father giving me a job, and the inner workings of grading (moving dirt). This is an adaptation form of literacy (2) My time in the Marine Corps when I became literate in the political world of the Marine Corps, and through extension, the world in general. This is a power form of literacy. iii) The writing progress: I have started writing notes for the paper, as far as examples from both moments in my life that either taught me a new lesson, or tested my abilities. I am still figuring out a plan to use these examples in my paper. (1) During my time as a construction worker there would be days when I would learn how to operate equipment such as the roller, the backhoe, and the skid loader. (2) Once I had spent a few years working construction, I was in a position where I would have to work on a job either by myself, or on a project that required me to work with others who did not have the same level of knowledge. (3) While in the Marine Corps, I learned how to work around an obtuse command in order to get my job done, and in order to earn a promotion. iv) My current editing strategy: Once I get my first draft completed, I will immediately work on something else, in order to get out of the mindset of writing the paper. After that, I will re-read my work and check for any errors. After fixing any errors, I will have a third party read my paper, and have the reader mark any parts that are incorrect, as far as grammar, or that do not make sense. v) Concerns: At this time, the only concern that I have is that I will not have enough time to edit my work. However, I know that I will be able to finish the assignment within the allotted amount of time.
