Reflective Evaluation Lesson 3 Math Grade 2 Equal Groups This week I planned and implemented a differentiated lesson plan in mathematics

specifically on equal groups with my 2nd grade class at PS 19. Overall, the lesson went well. I felt that the plan was comprehensive and complete based on the feedback that I received from both my cooperating teacher, my college supervisor and the general education teacher. The student responses to my lesson props were very favorable. I felt extremely prepared for my third lesson. Although, this was my first lesson in second

grade, it was in a subject area that I feel very confident in. I came up with the idea of using hula-hoops through Pinterest and changed it to fit my lesson. I was eager to do

the lesson with my students because I knew they would be excited and I think that this is something that is rare at this point. The reason I feel this way is because with the

rigors of new core curriculum, there is very little room for teachers to create and execute exciting lessons. The student materials I prepared for this lesson were clear and useful. The materials,

i.e. hula hoops, teacher made worksheets, The Orange Has 8 Slices book, the checklist rubric. Student involvement and participation was quite evident. Once my cooperating teacher approved my lesson I knew I was in good shape. My students loved the hulahoops. They were even excited about the worksheets I had them do with equal grouping and skip counting. I felt that

r tied

in the student's prior knowledge very nicely and that

I did a good job in explaining what an array is with my hands on demonstrations. After

reviewing my students' work I would have to say that a majority of them both understood and grasped my lesson. I was very proud of my students because they did three math

lessons in a row that day and they behaved incredibly well. They also were able to keep up with the material even though my lesson was accidentally two lessons ahead. My

one student who has a one to one for behavior management was on his best behavior and was able to not only grasp the concept but also figure out a new way to solve it. I think I need to relax a little more and remember to smile more and give out more praise. I

was really happy with how Ms. Chiarella went in and helped me by walking around and helping some students.

r feel

comfortable with my students and my cooperating teacher

and I think that is part of the reason why my lesson went so well. I thought that my tone, pitch, voice pacing were appropriate throughout my lesson execution. I finally feel that

r paced

the lesson correctly with the help of the general education teacher who circulated

and helped move things along. Lesson pacing has been an area of weakness in my prior two lessons but this time it was not an issue. The meaningful participation. events of my lesson were primarily the student interaction and

Their responses to my questions, strategies they utilized, their acting it

out were the meaningful events of my lesson. If I were the cooperating teacher, I would definitely say that this was a good first lesson for this 2nd grade class. Of course there is always room for improvement. As a student being taught this lesson, I feel that the hook As a student

was a good motivator and I enjoyed the teacher's enthusiasm and materials.

I can see the value of using various strategies in solving problems of equal groups. Based on the expectation and the rigors of the new core curriculum these are skills and strategies on which to build on for success as problem solvers in the future. think my lesson was great and I'm really happy with the student outcome.
