    December 11, 2013 – West Orange, NJ – In a 4-1 decision, the West Orange Township Council voted to move the date of the municipal elections from May to November. By eliminating the May election, the town is expected to save approximately $80,000 and assure a larger voter turnout. The move will also extend the terms of the officials scheduled to run in May 2014. At the present time, those terms are supposed to end on June 30, 2014. Moving the election to November would extend those terms to Dec. 31, 2014. “The numbers speak for themselves. Moving the election from May to November almost doubles the number of people who are participating. It also reduces Election Day school security concerns and will save the Township approximately $80,000.
