School Profile: YES Prep North Forest

BASED UPON 2012-2013 TEA ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE REPORT

YES Prep North ForestAbout Us


In the 2012-2013 academic school year, YES Prep North Forest was a public college prep charter school in the YES Prep Public Schools District. Within the district, YPNF is unique as it is both the first YES Prep school to have a district partnership (North Forest Independent School District) and it also holds the distinction as being the first YES Prep school to grow simultaneously at the 6th and 9th grade levels. In the 2013-2014 school year, YES Prep will be a fully grown out school housing 6th-12th grade students. The founding school director is Eldridge Gilbert.

YES Prep North Forest exists to train its students to become the next generation of leaders in North Forest through academic rigor, community service, leadership training, and experience. Our students (We) will develop a thirst for knowledge, a desire to explore the world around them, empower their communities, and lead others to achieve social justice and equality.

YES Prep North Forest School Vision


For all the Legends of North Forest to develop into leaders through social, emotional, and academic preparedness, personal empowerment, self confidence and humility built through risk taking, tenacity built through grit and persistence, courage to cope with adversity, and the development of responsibility through personal accountability.

Special Programs
College Counseling Department
The College Counseling Department consists for four College Counselors who work with students from 6th grade through 12th grade on understanding the importance of college and also helping them with the skills that they need to make it to and succeed in college. Whether they are providing study tips, practicing SAT/ACT questions or bringing in over 50 college admissions teams a year to speak with students, this department is the backbone of the College Initiatives on the campus of YPNF.

Student Support Counselors


At YPNF, there are three Student Support Counselors (SSCs) whose role is to provide emotional and mental support for the campus; These individuals are all social workers with at least a Masters degree. This department provides: small group meetings on campus for students with specific needs, Cultural Celebrations, and they also provide professional development sessions for teachers on working with students.

Psychology, Spanish Language/Literature, English Language/Literature, Biology, Calculus BC

Bid Trips
At YES Prep North forest, students can earn YES $ for exhibiting the values of our school: Empowerment, Perseverance, Integrity, Compassion. With these YES $, students can bid to go on trips sponsored by teachers such as: Ice Skating at the Galleria, Ballet trip to The Nutcracker, Dining at new cultural cusines, and many more. This system is used to incentivize our students to do the right thing at all times.
