Chapter 1: Introduction
Background
India is the birthplace of four of the world's major religious traditions; namely Hinduism, Islamic, Sikhism, Christianity. Throughout India's history, religion has been an important part of the country's culture. Religious diversity and religious tolerance are both established in the country by the law and custom. A vast majority of Indians (over 93%), associate themselves with a religion. According to the 2001 census,80.5% of the population of India practice Hinduism. Islam (13.4%), Christianity (2.3%), Sikhism (1.9%), Buddhism (0.8%) and Jainism (0.4%) are the other minor religions followed by the people of India. This diversity of religious belief systems existing in India today, is a result of both the existence of multiple native religions and also, the assimilation and social integration of religions brought to the region by traders, travellers, immigrants, and even invaders and conquerors. Fig 1 shows the ratio of different religion in different part of India.

Objective:
The main objective of this project is to make a website which shows the Indian famous religions and among them it shows the famous pilgrimage sites of the respective religion. Hinduism: Hinduism is the world's oldest living religion. Today, worldwide, there are almost one billion people professing some aspect of Hinduism. This is a religion with various gods and goddesses, Hindus believe in one supreme God but they worship God in different avatars or forms Hinduism includes a wide spectrum of laws and prescriptions of "daily morality" based on karma, dharma, and societal norms, 80% of the Indian population are Hindus. Hinduism or Santana Dharma ("eternal spiritual path") began about 4000 years ago in India. It was the religion of an ancient people known as the Aryans ("noble people") whose philosophy, religion, and customs are recorded in their sacred texts known as the Vedas. Islam The followers of Islam are known as Muslim. They are second largest religions community in India accounting for over 11% of her total population. Muslims believe in only one God of or Allah. Prophet Mohammad is believed to be the last & the greatest of the Prophets. He was born in 570 A.D in Mecca. He preached & spread Islam. The Koran is a holy book of the Muslims. The devout Muslim has five duties belief in one God; prayers five time a day; the giving of alms; a months fast every year; and a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in life time. The Muslims do not allow idol worship. Neither do they allow any picture of Allah.

Sikhism A progressive religion well ahead of its time when it was founded over 500 years ago, The Sikh religion today has a following of over 20 million people worldwide and is ranked as the worlds 5th largest religion. Sikhism preaches a message of Devotion and remembrance of God at all times, truthful living, equality of mankind and denounces superstitions and blind rituals. Sikhism is open to all through the teachings of its 10 Gurus enshrined in the Sikh Holy Book. Christianity Christians comprise about two & a half % of Indias population. Christianity was founded by Lord Jesus Christ. He was born at Bethlehem in Israel near two thousand year ago. Jesus taught the people the importance of peace, love &compassion. The teachings of Jesus Christ are contained in the holy book, Bible Christians worship in a Church. The symbol of a Church is cross signifies the crucifixion of Lord Jesus Christ.

Chapter 3 Process and Results

In India there four major religion which are followed by the mostly people of India. We collect different religion sites from Google Earth. Then convert these points into shape files.

Figure 2Google Earth Image 1

Figure 3Google Earth Image 2

Next step I start to convert all the KML in to layer through Arc GIS 10.1 software. We used conversion tool for converting KMLs into Layers.

Add India Layer: For this project we consider some famous temples, churches, Gurudwaras, and Mosques from all over India. We can take many more religion sites but as this project is for understanding of Web Site designing through Vb , so we consider few famous religious points for the study. We give a appropriate symbol to a particular religion as we give Om sign for temple which shows Hinduism, We give crossbar for Churches which is a symbol of Christianity, for Islam we give green moon with star and for Sikhism we give a building symbol which keeps a orange flag. We add India shape file in to Arc map. This layer makes a boundary for all the religion sites. Another benefit is this layer is that we can visually see the distances between religion sites.

Figure 4 Adding India Layer

Add Temples: Second step is to add Temple layer on the same Arc Map . This layer shows all the famous temples with their locations.

Figure 5 Adding Temples

Add Church: We add four famous churches in the Arcmap over India layer.

Figure 6 Adding Church

Add Mosque and Dargahs: Another step is to add mosque layer to the Arc map.

Figure 7 Add Mosque and Dargahs:

Lastly we add Gurudwaras on Arc Map.

Figure 8Add Gurudwara

Join/Add database: In GIS database plas a important role. Without Database GIS study is not useful. With the help of Database we can show the different parameter of the study. For this Project we make different tables for all the religions. These tables include all the initial information related to a particular religious site.First colum of this table is name of the religious site.Second column contains some description of that religious site why is it famous. Third column shows city and fourth column shows state of the aprticular religious site. This information is helpful for the visitors and they can plan their tour according to the site locations.

Figure 9 Table Join

We join all the tables with their respective layers. Now each layer contains a database with the useful information of a selected religious site.

Figure 10 Religion data

Publish steps: So far we make an Arc map document which contains some religious site information and their locality. Now we have to make this map for internet accessible so that user can see the location and get the entire useful information just click on the website. To make these layers accessible first we have to publish all the layers through Arc GIS 10.1 software. The main requirement is that for publishing Arc GIS Server must be installed in that machine with Arc GIS 10.1 software. We can publish the Arc Map by Arc GIS Online too. First time of using this service we have to give URL, User name and Password, without them we cannot use this service.

Figure 11 Adding Pushpin

We select file then choose share as in share as we select service, which means we publish this map as a service using Arc GIS Server. After select share as option another window comes which contains three options among them we select Publish as service. Then click on Next.

Figure 12 Publish step1

Now we give a proper name to the service .

Figure 13 Publish step2

We can publish this service in to the existing folder or we can create a new folder for this service. We can publish several layers at a time for a project.

Figure 14Publish step3

In this Service editor section we give general information as server name, type of service , connection. If we set in the beginning URL, and User name then it will automatically show all the details.

Figure 15 Publish step4

Now next step is to analyze this map if there is any error it will comes in this process. Result of this step comes with some warnings. Warnings can be considered but if errors come then first we have to correct these errors then again analyze the map. In the preview section we can see the preview of the map after publishing. Last step is to publish the map.

Figure 16 Publish step5

After successfully publishing the map can be viewed on server and internet. We can see this map on www.arcgis.com and select different base maps. Online Server: After successfully publishing the map we check the folder name in the folder list which we create for the project.

Figure 17 Publish step5

Select the appropriate folder , in this folder we get all the layers of the Arc Map.

Figure 18Publish step6

Each layer gets a number which is starts from 0. We get the URL for a particular layer.

Figure 19Publish step7

Now we go to www.arcgis.com , here we select add then choose add layer through web. Then we add india layer with its respective URL.

20 Publish step8

Now we add all the layers after repeating same step with respective URL. First we add sikh , then islam, later we add Church layer ad in the end we add temple layer. Page 23 of 36

Figure 21Publish step9

After click on a particular religious site another popup window comes which contains its relevant information. Through this window we can check why this site is famous and the name of city and state of the selected religious site.

Figure 22 Publish step10

XAML.txt

Designning of the WEBSITE: This website contains two buttons named as HOME and Worshipsite. We add one listbox and one combo box . Through listbox we can choose religion . Combo box shows the list of sites of the selected religion. For the title we add Page 25 of 36

textbox and we add stack panel to show the images, in it we add four images of different religions. We add street base map for showing the site location from the arcgis online site.

Figure 24 Coding 1

This is the main page of the website which shows all the famous Pilgrimage sites of India for different religions. When we click on HOME a small paragraph comes which contains a information about India and its religions and the purpose of this website. Below code is for design the website outlet.
