This attractive Early American Step Table is an excellent project for those woodworkers who have a problem obtaining odd-sized stock. The entire piece is made from 3/4" thick pine, except for the 1/4" thick plywood drawer bottom.

Glue up 1' X 8' and 1' x 10' stock to make the sides (A), shelf (C), and bottom (D). 2. Glue up 1' x 12' stock to make the top (B). 3. Glue up 1' x 10' stock to make the back (F). 4. Glue up 1' x 6' stock to make the drawer front (G), sides (H), and back (I). 5. Allow the glue to dry. 6. Cut parts A, C, and D to size. 7. Refer to the grid pattern and lay out the step back curve on the sides (A). 8. Use a compass to scribe the 7-1/2" radius. 9. Use a band or saber saw to make these cutouts. 10. Cut the stretcher (E) to size. 11. Use a band or saber saw to make the decorative reveal in the stretcher (E). 12. Cut the top (B) to size. 13. Cut the back (F) to size. 14. Cut the drawer front (G), sides (H), and back (I) to size. 15. Cut the plywood drawer bottom (J) to size. 16. Use the dado-head to make the rabbets in the sides that accept the shelf and bot- tom and the cutouts for the back and stretcher. 17. Use glue and 3/8" dowels where indicated to assemble the table. 18. Rabbet the front of the drawer to accept the sides. 19. Rabbet the sides of the drawer to accept the back. 20. Make a 1/4" x 1/4" rabbet in the front and sides to support the plywood drawer bottom (J). 21. Position the drawer stop blocks (K) and glue them in place. 22. Turn or purchase the 1" diameter wood knobs. 23. Apply desired stain to finish.
