"Guardian "Wali
Back Fatwa Number 25977 16/11/2011 Guardian "Wali" As'salamu Alaykum, I have been abandoned by my father at birth and I don't know my paternal family. Moreover, my maternal grandfather is dead and I don't have any brother. Nevertheless, I was raised by my mother, but above all by my maternal uncle. He was always there for my education from I was a baby; he was like a very close father. Then I have searched my father and I have found him, unfortunately he has gone again. Is my uncle considered as my wali (tutor)? If yes, why my father is not my "wali"? If my dad come back is he becoming my wali even if I don't want? Can you explain the role of a "wali"? Does the wali have more right on me than my mother? Please explain in details inch'Allah. BarakAllahu'fik Wa'salam A sister from France. Answered Dr. Muhammad Tawfiq Ramadan Al-Bouti by:
