HOW BLOOD PRESSURE IS MAINTAINED AT NORMAL

Blood pressure drives blood through arteries and blood

capillaries

• Pressure increase in the systole and contraction stage.

• Pressure decrease in the diastole and relaxation stage.

Regulated by negative feedback mechanism.

• Baroreceptors located in the arch of aorta and arteries.

• Carotid arteries, detect blood pressure flowing through them.

• To the cardiovascular centre in medulla oblongata.

In blood pressure increase.

• Baroreceptors send impulses to the cardiovascular centre at a faster

rate.

• Sends impulses to the heart

• Results in a weaker cardiac arteries contraction.

The smooth muscles in arteries will relax.

Decrease the resistance of blood flow in the blood vessels.

By widening of blood vessels or vasodilation.

Decrease the blood pressure or back to the normal value.

Blood pressure decrease.

• Baroreeptors are less stimulated

Send nerve impulses at a slower rate to the cardiovascular

centre.

Cardiovascular center send s nerve impulses to the heart.

This result in a stronger cardiac muscle contraction.

The smooth muscles of the arteries contract.

Increase the resistance of blood flow in the blood vessels.

Naming of blood vessels or vasolidation.

Increase the blood pressure or back to the normal value.
