Multimedia Presentations

By Yessenia De La Torre and Amber Chesney

Model Media Use

Use multimedia as you teach by using video, overhead projectors, power points and other multimedia

Tell how the use of multimedia helps you to visually or orally demonstrate what you are teaching
Before you ask students to use multimedia, let them see the effectiveness of different types of multimedia in supporting learning

Introduce media slowly

One type at a time Allow students to have hands on experience with it as they are demonstrating their learning Overhead projector example

Add new media as appropriate

Use different media as it is appropriate to your lesson Review the reasons certain media is chosen so that students can make informed decisions on what types of media they will choose to use to support their presentations and demonstrate their learning

Allow time for practice

Allow yourself and students time to practice with equipment before using it for a formal presentation

Create working partners

Pair users by experience experienced with new user Use more experienced users as resources Train experienced users on how to help others explaining how, not doing it for

Make a media assignment

Assign a presentation that requires a multimedia element Start with media that the students are familiar with Gradually add other possible forms of media as students become familiar with their use Encourage partner work for earlier presentations
