Whilst many people see the Home Test as the first step to enjoying the wide range
of benefits Mensa membership can offer, the vast majority complete it purely for
the intellectual challenge it offers. They want to prove themselves, to achieve a
score which reflects their true potential and to gain the satisfaction and confidence
that comes with succeeding in the ultimate test.

Whatever your reason, don't miss your chance to take the Mensa Home Test - and
benefit from it. After all, you'll never know what heights you can reach until you
try.

INSTRUCTIONS
Look at these words:
apple, orange, potato, plum, cherry.

They are all names of fruits except 'potato', so 'potato' is underlined


as it does not belong with the others.

In each line below underline the ONE WORD that does not belong
there.

1. house, school, dog, cinema, church.


2. carrot, cabbage, turnip, orange, potato.
3. mountain, valley, hill, peak, ridge.
4. hour, yard, foot, mile, inch.
5. walk, run, trot, gallop, rest.
6. dress, overcoat, necklace, trousers, vest.

INSTRUCTIONS
In each line below there are TWO words this time which do not belong
with the other four words.

Underline these TWO words in each line.

The number left out is 8,
so the numbers should be:

Now continue:

Now continue, putting in each time the number of the right word from
the list. Some are the SAME, and some are OPPOSITE.

A certain tank holds 20 gallons of water. When a tap over it is turned
on water flows from it into the tank at the rate of 4 gallons a minute.
When a plug in the bottom of the tank is pulled out water drains away
from the tank at the rate of 6 gallons a minute.

Now answer these questions:

1. With the tank empty and the plug in, the tap is turned on. How
many minutes will it take to fill the tank?

2. With the tank full, the tap is turned on and the plug pulled out.

3. With the tank empty and the plug in, the tap is turned on for 3

After 4 minutes the tap is turned off with the plug left out. How
many more minutes will it then take to empty the tank?

5. The tank is full. The plug is pulled out for 2 minutes. The tap is
then turned on for 3 minutes with the plug still out. How many
gallons will be in the tank at the end of this time?

6. The tank is empty with the plug in. The tap is turned on for 4
minutes. The plug is then pulled out with the tap left on for

order to mark the test and communicate the results to you. Should your results
indicate you may be eligible for membership of Mensa, we will retain your personal
details for administration purposes, including your test score. If your result does
not indicate you may be eligible to join the society, we will remove your personal
details from our records after a period of time which will be determined by our
financial legal obligations. Please note that after your personal details have been
removed we may still retain your test results in an anonymous form for research
purposes.
