Whatissoincredibleaboutthisfindisadelightfuldetailofthepelvis.Thehipsocketissmoothandroundaballandsocketjoint thatsuggeststhehindfinhadquiteawiderangeofmotion.Thisisunliketheshoulderjointwhichhasanoblongshapewithanangled facetthatwouldhavepreventedthefrontfinfromrotatingupandaround.Judgingbyfossildataalone,thefrontfinswererobustand capableofsupportingweightbuttheywereprobablynothelpingTiktaalikwalklikeanamphibianonlandwithoutsomeseriousbody drag.Thehindfinswerealsoquitestrongandclearlyplayedapartinholdingupthebeast.Butwhatoftheballandsockethipjoint?
