Omert: (among the Mafia) a code of silence about criminal activity and a refusal to give evidence to the police.

Greek tragedy was expected to arouse two emotions--fear and pity. A good tragedy would make the audience feel pity for the sufferings of the characters, even if they brought those sufferings on themselves. The protagonist of a tragedy was usually a person in whose character good and evil were mixed but in whom the good predominated. This description or definition is usually paraphrased as "a basically noble person with a tragic flaw."
