Codes and conventions of interviews

Jack Loach

Mise-en-scene
We thought carefully about the mise-en-scene of each interview as we wanted to make sure it was appropriate to the topic, looks interesting and professional. The teacher was in a professional environment with Jack being in a more informal setting which fits both of their stories.

Camera shots
Our interviews were shot at medium close up as we believed this was close enough to show the emotions but not far enough away so the background becomes the dominant feature of the shot. They were also shot from the side the make it seem more natural and look professional.

Lighting
We made sure the lighting did not affect the interviewer or interviewee so they could easily do their sides to it. We also made sure it was bright enough so that the interviewee was easily visible.

Editing
We left a gap between answers and the question so that it was easier to separate the two. We also used straight cuts as they are a convention used in documentaries.

Graphics
We made the names more prominent than the role as we felt that this was more important. This is another convention
