Amber Haslag Teaching Online Courses Summer 2013

SIS Plan

Grade: 3rd or 4th grade Science Objectives: Students will understand adaptations and how animals use them on a daily basis. Students will design and choose their own adaptations for themselves using the Build Your Wild Self website. Students will be able to justify their choices for a certain adaptation through a writing assignment. Purpose: Direction instruction- Introduction to Animal Adaptations using technology (website) A student will have knowledge of animals but not how they react using the adaptations they have in their environment. The learner is expected to have little knowledge on the subject but the background knowledge of animals from zoos, pets, etc will be enough to start with questions and exploring the topic. The learners would be very young but know their way around the computer to get started and get to a website when directed. The teacher will need to prepare the slides as an introduction. The teacher will need to set up the session in Collaborate so students will have access and know when the session will be going on. Questions should be asked throughout to check for understanding both by students and by the teacher. The teacher will have a list of questions to go off of before the session starts. The teacher will make sure the students know how to get to the website and use its features. The class will experiment on the website before the assignment is given out. The teacher will prepare for the class to do an example together. Elluminate will be the main host of the lesson. Students will be able to use the chat feature to communicate along with the poll for informal quizzing. Students need to bring pencil and paper for notes. Students will also need internet access with a browser capability to open buildyourwildself.com. This session is expected to take about 20 minutes.
