The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel As a British and independent film enthusiast, I was ecstatic to see this unique

film directed by ohn Madden, starring se!eral of my fa!orite actors" Maggie #mith, udi $ench, Bill %ighy, and &enelope 'ilton( I)m more than half a century younger than the targeted audience for this film set in a retirement home, and I thin* that ma*es me a more ob+ecti!e critic who hasn)t yet weathered the ,storms of life-( The plot is simple, and gi!es way to emotional de!elopments( #e!en English senior citi.ens experience financial or other difficulties that moti!ate them to The !eteran cast in this mo!ie made it something special( Maggie #mith, as usual, is exact in e!ery nuance of her character, a retired house*eeper who o!ercomes her cynicism and xenophobia by the end of the story( #mith accentuates both the humor and the sadness of her character( /ne of my fa!orite retorts is, ,#ix months0 I)m too old to plan that far ahead( I don)t e!en buy green bananas(- At the same time, her interactions with an ,untouchable- ser!ant girl ma*e her more and more of an empathetic character( By no fault of the actors, this mo!ie lac*s the character de!elopment necessary to support its assays at presenting a deep, barely tangible theme about life( By the end, we)re supposed to feel a strong empathy for each of them, but fran*ly, we)re not gi!en enough basis( ean and $ouglas are a couple whose relationship becomes strained after forty years of marriage, yet it)s ne!er clear how they drifted apart, and their separation towards the end of the film seems abrupt and forced( It)s hinted frequently that E!elyn, a widowed housewife, had felt oppressed by her deceased husband, but her experiences are ne!er used to enhance her character( ,The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel- is based upon the no!el, ,These 1oolish Things,- by $eborah Moggach( 2i*e any paper3to3screen mo!ie, this one bears the flaws of seeming rushed and
