Sculpture THE SUBTRACTIVE PROCESS OF FORM MAKING Learning Goals -to develop a 3D sculpture through manipulation of the following

components *Balance, contrasts, and relationship of a part to whole (how it works together). -to develop a personal process of creating a work of art from concept to form. -to explore the subtractive process of form making -create a work of art in which forms and spaces are inseparable ASSIGNMENT Choose one object from each of the following categories and develop a dynamic, asymmetrical or symmetrical 3D form. *Organic or Biomorphic form: derived from or relating to living things, a reection of the organic qualities found in nature. Organic or biomorphic forms are described by free-owing curves. They are composed of curved edges and do not have any straight lines. CHOSEN OBJECT_________________________________________ *Rectilinear form: either simple or complex geometric form that does not possess any lines or surfaces that are curved. CHOSEN OBJECT_________________________________________ PROCESS * Develop a minimum of 5 drawings that combine your two objects -experiment with scale -do not be concerned, at this point, with trying to describe the nal form Instead work freely and quickly with any drawing medium to create suggestions of form which could be further developed three-dimensionally. *Develop 1 nal form, full scale, from a plaster block by carving, cutting, ling, drill, and sanding the piece to the desired shape. -Approximate size: 9h x 5w x5d *Explore various nishes and textures.
