Vision to develop technologies that co-exist together. Segment market on basis of end users as HP and exit market if not in first and second position as per GE. Aim to be one stop vendor as IBM is for mainframes. Shorter product life cycle of less than 18 months, time to market is critical, so technology as to be developed internally or through alliances /deals. Target acquisitions companies were small ,privately helped fast growing start ups, culturally similar and geographically close .Acquisitions should fast and seamless both for employees , customers and infrastructure. Employees strength 11000, including 2000 from acquisitions, 30% revenue from acquired product lines , acquisitions resulted in zero lay off as product development and market expansion was the goal and not cost saving through consolidation. CEC ,an employee only intranet was developed for disseminating information and keeping employees on the same page. Benefits were instant global communications, enhanced productivity , consistent business systems, lower business costs and scalability. High connecting rate of 350 employees per month posed concerns about the limitations of intranet for managing growth. Possible solution could be alingment of technology(Computer hardware, software, data management technology) and organisational (hiearchy, functional facilitites, business processes, culture and political interest groups ) dimensions Involvement of the employees Analysis of the related pay offs in IS and IT investments. Communicating to employees through training and integrating usage of information systems to employee reward/appraisals.
