Policies and Procedures

South Shore Christian Preschool


South Shore Christian Preschool understands that when you leave your child in our care, you are entrusting us with your precious little ones. We feel honored and privileged by this and ensure you that we will treat your child as the unique individual that he or she is. Please feel free to speak with us at anytime about any questions or concerns that you may have. We only accept children from age 2 to 5 years who are potty trained. We believe that it is natural and necessary for children to work together in a multi-age setting. Children of all ages have a great capacity to learn from one another and their environment. Therefore, we will adapt the class activities according to the ages present.

Activities To Explore
The preschool has many exciting and educational classes for you to pick from for your children. During class time children will be given no less than two ten minutes breaks to get their wiggles out. This is a great time for them to enjoy the beautiful and unique features of your home created with them in mind. South Shore Christian Preschools environment is perfectly suited for kids between the ages of 1 to 10. We provide the opportunity for your children to learn and explore through formal class time as well as free time. We have incorporated exciting classes that allow children to enhance their Social-Emotional, Cognitive, Language, Fine and Gross Motor Developmental Domains. We also want to provide a multitude of opportunities for your child to obtain important life-centered character traits that will assist your child in becoming a productive member of their community. Our classes will provide a secure, productive, and FU-N learning environment for your childs development!

Policy Changes
In the event South Shore Christian Preschool amends operational policies, we will notify you upon your first visit to the center after amendments have taken effect.

South Shore Christian Preschools Hours to Create and Discover:


Monday and Wednesday 9 a.m. 2 p.m. Friday 4 p.m. to 11:00 p.m (will close at 10pm, if there are no children here) Other times available by reservation.

Reservations
A reservation may be made but is not required to join a class. However we do only have space for six children. Therefore we strongly recommend you call ahead to be sure we are not at capacity. We are unable to accept children once we have six children signed up for a class.

Registration
Upon your first visit to South Shore Christian Preschool, we ask that you complete the registration form and release form as well as thoroughly read our policies. It is very important for the health and safety of all children at South Shore Christian Preschool that you abide by our policies. Because South Shore Christian Preschool is a drop-in childcare center, parents must be easily accessible, able to return within 15 minutes and able to be reached by cell phone or pager. Please note that the last drop off time is 8pm on Friday nights. There will be a late fee of $1 every two minutes that a

child is picked up after closing. Please be aware that if a child is not picked up 1 hour after closing and we have not made contact with a parent, the police will be alerted. Please be sure to contact us if you will be late. Payment is due when the child is picked up. We accept cash , Master Card, Visa and Amex. We do not accept personal checks. There is a 1 hour minimum charge. If you decide to leave the class early with your child you are required to pay for a full hour. Reservations are not required to use South Shore Christian Preschool but are encouraged because we cannot accept children once we have reached capacity.

ENTRY INTO THE STATION


On your first visit we will confirm all of your registration information. Your child will be checked-in by a staff member. Once checked-in, you will be assigned a cubby for your childs belongings. Upon entering the play area all shoes are removed and hands are washed.

DEPARTURE FROM THE JUNGLE


During check out/payment you will be given the exact amount of minutes your child was in the program. Time will be rounded to the nearest 30 minutes and will be calculated accordingly. Only listed authorized persons with photo on file (or photo I.D.) will be allowed to pick up/drop off your child. If someone other than the parent or guardian were picking up the child he/she would be released to the people listed in the registration only after photo I.D. has been seen. In situations of custody agreements, the center will follow the advice of court ordered documents. All monies owed to South Shore Christian Preschool are paid upon departure from the facility.

Late Pick Up
A charge of $1.00 a minute per child will be assessed to parents who leave their child beyond regular closing time.

Possessions, Personal Belongings


South Shore Christian Preschool welcomes a shoeless environment. We ask that children wear socks. Should you forget socks they will be available for purchase. All personal belongings should be labeled with first and last names and placed in the designated lockers. To make sure a smooth transition takes place we do ask that you please take the time to label all of your childs items prio r to drop-off. We value your childrens personal belongings; however, we are not responsible for anything left behind. In addition, we ask parents to refrain from bringing personal toys with you at drop off. South Shore Christian Preschool is NOT responsible for any broken and/or missing items.

Lost and Found


Items that are left behind will be kept in a storage bin for lost items for a period of two weeks.

Staff Qualifications
South Shore Christian Preschool staff members are childcare professionals. They are put through background checks, fingerprinting and personal interviews. Once they become South Shore Christian Preschool team members, employees are certified in infant and child CPR and First Aid.

Caregiver Ratios
Children are in good hands at South Shore Christian Preschool. There will always be one caregiver per every one to five children less than two years of age. For children two years old and up, there is a 10 children to one caregiver ratio. Staff is scheduled daily to exceed these minimum requirements so that the children will have more personal attention and supervision. Every South Shore Christian Preschool has staff on call in the event that more caregivers are needed in the jungle.

Clothing
When bringing your child to South Shore Christian Preschool, please remember to dress them in comfortable clothing. The children will be climbing, tumbling and engaging in F-U-N activities while they

attend classes. They may utilize art products such as paint, markers, and glue while they are in our care. Please be sure to bring a change of clothing for your child. In the event a child needs to have his or her clothes changed and does not have a change of clothing with them, we will provide new clothing for the child to wear at a charge for the needed items. We ask that all children wear socks while in the center, but not shoes. If children arrive to the center without socks, we have socks of various sizes available for purchase.

Snacks and Meals


Parents may bring a bag lunch or opt for meals provided by us . A menu is provided on our website and at check in. Please make snack request upon checking your child in. Snacks are provided for an additional charge. Any food allergies your child might have should be noted on your registration form and in your South Shore Christian Preschool profile.

Rest Time
South Shore Christian Preschool does not offer a specific rest time. However, we will provide mats for your child to rest during evening hours or if they should fall asleep while at the facility. There will also be two portable cribs utilized to put your children down for a nap should the parents desire us to do so.

Cleanliness
The entire South Shore Christian Preschool staff is dedicated to providing a clean, well cared for center. If there is ever an issue with a center's level of cleanliness, please let a staff member know so that immediate action can be taken.

Health and Immunization


It is South Shore Christian Preschools strict policy NOT to accept children who are ill. Reasonable precautions are taken to safeguard children against illness. Your cooperation is required, so please do not ask us to care for your children when they are sick. Please do not bring in your child to South Shore Christian Preschool with a cold, sore throat, rash, cough, diarrhea or pink eye. Do not bring in a child who has had a fever or has vomited in the past 24 hours. If a child becomes sick during the course of their stay with us, the child will be separated from others (within eyesight and hearing of our staff) and the parents will be contacted immediately at the emergency phone number provided. Parents will be expected to pick up the sick child in a prompt manner. South Shore Christian Preschools staff has first aid training and will administer as necessary to minor cuts and bruises. In the event of a medical emergency, your child will be transported to an appropriate medical facility by the local emergency unit for treatment at the expense of the parents. The state of Hawaii requires childcare facilities to have each child's immunization records as well as a health care summary on file. In order to use South Shore Christian Preschool services, parents are required to provide a current immunization and heath form.

Illness
There are times when a child may become sick, cry uncontrollably, or experience an unexpected accident. To prevent the spread of germs, if your child(ren) shows any signs of illness, he/she will be placed in a separate play area away from other children. Since we do not administer any medication (South Shore Christian Preschool will administer an EpiPen for life-threatening situations), an South Shore Christian Preschool staff member will contact the parent or authorized guardian for immediate pickup of your child(ren). In the event of an injury to your child, the center is equipped with a fully-stocked first aid kit, and all South Shore Christian Preschool Staff have CPR and first-aid training. In the event of an extreme medical emergency, South Shore Christian Preschool Staff will also contact 911 for assistance and if needed transport your child to the nearest medical facility. In this extreme case, parents will be notified so that you can meet your child at the emergency facility. To maintain a healthy environment, we need the cooperation of the parents. South Shore Christian Preschool will not accept any children who are ill upon arrival to this facility. The following

precautions will be taken for children suspected of having a communicable disease: 1. The center will immediately notify the parent of the childs condition. 2. Any child who has or develops the following signs or symptoms of illness will be immediately isolated and discharged to his/her parent: Diarrhea Vomiting Stiff neck Yellowish skin or eye Conjunctivitis (pink eye) Elevated Temperature Untreated infected skin patches Unusually dark urine and/or gray or white stools Severe coughing, causing a child to become red in the face or make a whooping cough or sounds Evidence of lice, scabies, and other parasitic infestations. A child can not return to the center unless these infestations are gone. Before the child can be re-admitted to the center we must have a note from a doctor or family care provider indicating the child is not contagious. If a child develops symptoms considered to be an emergency we will call 911. 3. A child must have a doctors note to return to the center after having a communicable disease or illness, as deemed necessary by the administrator or be symptom free for 5 days. In the event of a communicable disease (chicken pox, mumps, measles, etc.) parents of the other children in attendance at the same time of said child will be notified by the center.

Medication and Allergies


South Shore Christian Preschool staff members are unable to administer any medication with the exception of the following, to be used in life-threatening emergencies: such as EpiPens, inhalers, and insulin. Please let staff know when your child is on medication so that we may keep accurate information on file. If you have any additional questions about this policy, please ask us.

Special Needs
Please make South Shore Christian Preschool aware of any special needs your child requires. Each child should be able to play independently within our staff ratio and without extra assistance. South Shore Christian Preschool does not discriminate.

Toilet Training and Diapering


Many young children are not fully toilet trained. If your child is in this category, parents are responsible for providing diapers, wipes, and a complete change of clothing for their child. Our staff will change any child who has an accident and each child will be given toilet training encouragement when possible. In the event that a child needs to be changed and does not have the items necessary to change the child, we will provide new clothing for the child to wear at a charge for the needed items.

Behavior Guidance Policy


Children generally respond favorably to praise, encouragement and positive redirection to make good decisions. It is South Shore Christian Preschools policy to focus on positive behavior. There are other times when behavior warrants correction. In the interest of safety for all children visiting South Shore Christian Preschool, individuals who are exceptionally aggressive will be asked not to return to South Shore Christian Preschool until there is a significant improvement in their behavior.

Guidelines for Disenrollment


South Shore Christian Preschool will disenroll any child whose behavior creates a risk of harm to the health and safety towards themselves and towards other children and staff.

2014 Holidays and Closings

We will be closed to observe the following holidays: 2012 Holidays and Closings Independence Day- July 4th, 2012 Labor Day- September 3rd, 2012 Thanksgiving- November 22nd and 23rd Christmas- 24th and 25th South Shore Christian Preschool host special events during SOME holidays and closings. Hours and packages CAN NOT be used for special events. Security Safety and Security are of the utmost importance to everyone at South Shore Christian Preschool. Our facility and policies are designed with this in mind. All South Shore Christian Preschool staff members are certified in infant and child First Aid and CPR. Our staff is comprised of trained and experienced childcare professionals. The facilities contain surveillance cameras in multiple locations. A photo ID is required in order to pick-up a child. Additionally, a child will only be released to persons designated on Registration Forms or in your South Shore Christian Preschool profile. Complete emergency procedures are on file at the facility. We utilize video surveillance cameras that record activities in all areas of the center with the exception of the bathroom. No more than one child at a time is allowed in the bathrooms. We adhere to strict pick-up procedures. Staff check photo I.D when a child is picked up. Please do not be offended if you are repeatedly asked for I.D. It is for the safety of your child. Children will only be released to those persons listed on the registration form. Please be sure to let the staff know if your child is to be picked up by someone other than the person dropping him/her off. Incident Reports Despite the training and best efforts of the South Shore Christian Preschool staff, accidents and incidents will inevitably occur. Should an incident occur during your child's stay you will receive a written "incident report." The staff member on duty will sign the report, ask you to review it with him or her, and ask you to sign it. If you have any questions at the time of the incident, please ask for clarification.
