African American History Month Commemoration


Events and Activities
Announcements: Each day, Monday through Thursday, a fact will be read. The facts are today in Black History Facts meaning the event/ achievement happened on that day in a particular year. On Friday, a student will dramatically read a poem by an African American Poet. Gallery: In the front lobby, we will be showcasing student work around African American History. Integration into Instruction Interactive Read Alouds: The Southeastern Howard/ Laurel Chapter of the Continental Societies, Inc. have volunteered to come into our classrooms and read to groups of students books by African American authors throughout the day on February 12th. Lessons: Two sets of language arts lessons (two for primary, and two for intermediate) will be provided for teachers, along with a book list of suggested texts that are connected to African American History or that are written by African American authors. One of those lessons will be a green lesson, centered on African Americans role in environmental awareness. Hallways: Starting Monday, February 10th, at each Beaver, there will be a Who was it? Fact. Teachers will be provided with answers, and students who answer correctly will be given a Beaver Buck.
