What is it?

Exposure

Compensation is a tool on a digital camera which is used to adjust the exposure, or the amount of light, in the photo. Exposure is the measure of how light or dark your photo is.

Why Do We Need it?

It

is used to make the photo pleasing to the eye and the objects in the photo clearly defined. Without proper exposure and the use of exposure compensation, our photography would be too dark and unable to see in some circumstances. But in bright light our pictures would have too much light.

How do you use it on a camera?

It

is a sliding scale on a camera with a plus and minus button. You can press either button to add or decrease the amount of light in your photo. This will tell the camera to adjust its exposure.
