Personal escape plans!

Its time to take what weve learned about the various ways of being trapped and turn it into a personal escape plan for you! This essay will require you to think about all of the texts, themes, and issues we have covered in this unit. These include: trapped by disability, culture, relationships, responsibilities, social norms, economic status, geographical location, language, and more! Look back on your portfolio, notes, and other assignments to help you. The essay should look like the ones we wrote for the characters in Empire Falls: i. ii. iii. iv. v. Character bio How they are trapped How they can escape it Challenges they might face escaping Why it is an effective (or ineffective) escape plan

For paragraphs ii-v, you should use examples from the novels, articles, and other materials we used in class. For example, if you are trapped by a disability, how can you use Lennie or Cindy to inform your situation, ways to escape, or challenges you might face? What about the socio-cultural contexts? How does what weve learned about the economy or about language and personal relationships factor into your situation and ways to escape? You should use specific examples from the course materials, but you are not required to use every piece of material weve looked at. You must use either Empire Falls or Of Mice and Men at least once and at least two examples of supporting material, which can include any of the supporting articles or inclass activities weve read/participated in. This should bring you to about 4 pages if you are thourough. This essay is meant to make you think and make connections between everything weve learned in class and your life! Take your time, ask questions, and do your best! We can escape this together ;)
