Javalina Defensive Philosophy

The primary defensive goal will be to install an attack style defense not a reactionary “bend don’t
break style defense”. Goals of the defense are to attack key offensive components and restrict
offensive options. This defensive will cause disruptions in offensive timing, pace and execution
and will not allow the offense to dictate the pace of the game. The defense wants to keep
opposing offenses under constant pressure thus making it more likely for the offense to make a
mistake.

Short Term Goals

*Ensure Defensive can tackle.

*Ensure Defense can pursue to the football.

*Ensure Defense can make hard contact with aggression.

*Ensure Defense knows defensive sets (to include all blitzes, shifts and adjustments) 4-3, 5-2.

*Determine 1st team defense and 2nd team defense.

Notables
*Defensive players show blitz on every down.

*Defensive line shoots gaps.

*Tight end and Quarterback are accounted for and harassed on every play.
