Demystifying Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders

This two-part training will help social service professionals understand Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), implications for prevention, screening techniques, and learn strategies. PART I will discuss cause, prevalence and behavioral presentation of FASD and will introduce basic strategies. PART II will include special guest presenter, Sterling Clarren, MD, who will extend the discussion of FASD. Double ARC staff will assist participants in creating strategies and applying knowledge to their practice. Screening and brief interventions will be presented as a means of preventing FASD. Sterling Clarren, MD, is one of the worlds leading researchers in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. A graduate of Yale University and the University of Minnesota Medical School, he is currently Scientific Director of Canadas FASD Research Network and clinical professor of Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia and the University of Washington State. Dr. Clarren wrote the first major summary article on the clinical pattern of malformation associated with prenatal alcohol exposure. He was co-author of the 4-Digit Diagnostic Code for FAS and related conditions. Dr. Clarren trained Double ARCs multi-disciplinary FAS Diagnostic Team.
