Innovation under Austerity Steven Wingfelder 991 293 244 Eben Moglen talks passionately about the future

e of innovation and the struggle it will come to face due to intermediation of technology. Dis-intermediation is the main focus of this speech and Moglen talks about how intermediation has negatively affected innovation and outlines steps to fix the problem. He believes that all people should have the power to use the internet, as well as create for it, which is not the case today because most of the population isnt educated enough to do that. Most rely on large powerhouse server companies such as Facebook to host their data, and this gives people of power the opportunity to use intermediation, and be the man in the middle between users and their private data. Moglens framework to promote dis-intermediation is based on the concept of openness and freedom. Innovation is believed to spring from youth curiosity and he wants to make a positive environment for children to learn and explore on their own terms without technology being locked down such as many companies like Apple are doing. He wants these children to have all available learning materials for free and also encourages sharing of information and tools. Lastly he believes that all should be able to innovate without supervision infringing on privacy. The ideas explained here are what Moglen believes necessary to kick-start innovation out of the current slump and have it increase at an exponential rate as is has been in the past for the good of the economy and the people.
