February 11, 2014 Dear Internship Coordinator, I would like to strongly recommend Nicole Himpele for consideration for an internship with your organization. I have gotten to know Nicole during her undergraduate studies at Slippery Rock University, as she was a student in my Technology for Physical Education Teacher Education class and is a member of the Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) Club, of which I serve as faculty advisor. During my interaction with her it is obvious that she has an enthusiasm and passion for teaching and working with young people. Nicole is a very bright and intelligent young woman. Academically she is doing an outstanding job, as is evident with her excellent 3.95 QPA. As a student in my class, she was extremely conscientious and well prepared with her assignments, which were all done exceptionally well. She was an active participant and set a high standard for the rest of the class. In Technology for PETE, we covered a wide array of technology that can assist in her internship. She is proficient with Microsoft (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel), web design, blogging, podcasting, electronic portfolios and more. I got to know Nicole on a personal level during a spring break trip to Ireland in 2013. Nicole was part of a group of students who traveled to Ireland with the Physical and Health Education Department. I was impressed with how well she was able to assimilate into the group and how well she and her classmates were able to handle international travel. It was wonderful to have her be a part of such an extraordinary experience. Nicole has impressed me with her maturity and focus. Her organizational and time management skills are excellent, as she has juggled many different activities, including two minors (Sport Management and Leadership) while achieving excellent grades. She currently works for the Health Center on campus, as a student driver. She worked as a lifeguard and camp counselor, substitute teacher, hostess, and child care worker. As a member of the PETE Club, she attended the 2013 PSAHPERD convention, and serves on the Registration Committee for the SRUAHPERD MiniConvention. She is also a member of the SRU Bodybuilding and Fitness Club. For her Sport Management minor she completed a practicum at the Aebersold Recreation Center on campus. Finally, her volunteer activities are many, including Special Olympics, Kids in Action, International Sports Night, Brians Ride M ini Triathlon, Rock Solid Challenge, and SRU Weekend of Welcome Move-In. Nicole is a self-motivated individual who works very hard to achieve the goals she has set for herself, and so I believe that she will do very well with an internship with your organization.

In closing, I would like to recommend that Nicole Himpele be given serious consideration for an internship with your organization. She would love to incorporate both her major (Physical and Health Education) and her minor (Sport Management) in her internship experience, and so this position would be a wonderful place for her to merge her two areas of expertise. Nicole is a very personable, dedicated and knowledgeable young woman who excels in the classroom, and across campus. I recommend her without hesitation. Sincerely,

Joanne M. Leight Ed.D. Associate Professor of Physical & Health Education
