Goal: To provide an environment that allows

individual students to learn in a way that suits them by providing a wider variation of effective teaching strategies including small group work, games, songs, hands-on activities, role-plays. Rationale: Each student learns in a different way and at a potentially different rate. It is important to be able to reach each student and engage them in learning. In my past practicums, I found that by understanding individual students, I was able to interact with them in a way that helped them learn, as well as understand. Sometimes, developing that understanding involved paying particular attention to certain students. It is important to provide great classroom management in order to be able to do this.

Goal: To develop effective questioning and

discussion techniques including clearly phrased questions, appropriate wait-time after questioning, seeking clarification/elaboration from the students, and directing student participation.

Rationale: In my first professional semester, I was weak at classroom discussion (this was indicated verbally by my TA as well as on my assessment sheet). I believe that it is important to get the students thinking by leading the discussion in the right direction without giving them all of the answers. Also, it is important to be asking the right questions. The questions need to be related to the material/outcome of the lesson but also need to guide the discussion and instruction.

Goal: To build and develop effective assessment

strategies including building a variety of effective strategies, modifying/adapting my teaching based on assessments, and maintaining accurate assessment records.
Rationale: It is my understanding and belief that assessment is key to learning. Effective assessment is important to students, teachers and parents. By incorporating effective assessment into the classroom, I will be able to guide my teaching as well as the students learning. In addition, by maintaining accurate records, I will always have evidence of student learning that can be used for numerous different reasons.
