Position Description for Friendship Center Executive Director

Responsibilities The Executive Director shall: Operate the food pantry known as the North Park Friendship Center, including all dealings with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, and ensuring compliance with all applicable rules, codes, and laws, as well as the safety and cleanliness of the program. Identify and evaluate additional appropriate programming for the Friendship Center, in consultation with the Board. Recruit, supervise and train volunteer staff/interns. Maintain a strong relationship with the Friendship Center Board of Directors, including regular reporting, and budget preparation and oversight with the Treasurer. Work in tandem with the Lincoln Square Friendship Center food pantry facility, finding new ways to join efforts and operate together as a team. Qualifications The Executive Director shall have a four year college degree, and preferably an appropriate graduate degree as well. Training in Social Work, Ministry, or Nonprofit Administration are a plus. The Executive Director shall have exceptional leadership, fund-raising and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently. The Executive Director will be responsible not only for the day to day operations of the pantry, but in conjunction with the Board of Directors will be responsible for setting the overall strategic direction and mission of the pantry as well. He/she shall have extensive experience in administration, supervision, and program development. He/she shall have exceptional oral and written communication skills. He/she shall have strong interpersonal skills in dealing with clients, volunteers, donors, community liaisons, Board members, and corporate sponsors. Initiative, problem solving, good judgment, independent thinking, an unshakable moral code, patience, and a sense of humor are vital. The Executive Director shall be proficient with computers, the internet, and have demonstrated experience using various forms of social media. Basic budgeting and financial modeling skills are necessary.

Terms of Employment The Executive Director will work at least 40 hours per week with a paid vacation. The Executive Director will be paid an annual salary to be determined by the Board.
