GULGBTQ+ MINUTES 27/01/14 IN ATTENDENCE: Kim, Colvin, Alex, Mariam, Tiffany, Andrew, Amy H, Amy K, Iain, Jordan Smyth,

Nicola Williams and Craig. APOLOGISES RECEIVED: Anna NO APOLOGISES: Lauren LATE: Charlie ( 18:37) DISCUSSION POINTS 1. Welcome and review of last week: FILM CLUB: Was a very good turnout and a successful event. Entertaining and lively film, with some good discussions afterward. The only downside to the whole night was the fact that we had to leave abruptly after the film; it would have been nice to have more time afterward to have drinks and chat. PUB QUIZ: Good turnout, a lot of people there, almost too many for committee room 1 to handle! A lot of newer members and second semester exchange students. People seemed to enjoy themselves and the night ran smoothly as ever a fun event for both members and the committee! POST-MAT EVENT: In Annas absence she asked Nicola Williams to run her Post-Mat event for her. Nicola let us know that 5 or so people turned up and she felt it was a really nice relaxing event just what Post-Mat students are looking for. 2. COMPLAINTS RECEIVED: There have been no complaints received this week by any committee member. 3. CAMPAIGNS: RECTORSHIP UPDATE: Kim met with Stuart a few days ago to keep each other update with the progress. Graeme is holding a question and answer session this week. 4. QUEERFEST: WORSHOPS: We have confirmed 7 day time workshops, they are the Rocky Horror shadow performance; Luke Evens meditation workshop; Jo Russells asexuality talk; Ciaras baking workshop; Tye-dye workshop; Vegan society workshop, and GMH have agreed to MEETING STARTED: 18:03 MEETING ADJOURNED: 20:46

VENUE CONFIRMATION: We need to confirm the GUU and confirm what rooms we have and from when to when. KIM, AMY K, AND ANDREW will confirm this after their meeting with GUU on Thursday. PUBLICITY: Flyers are very good and they seem to be getting people excited about Queerfest. Kim sent Kirsty Stanley our flyer and information so that they can create a flyer for us and PR it with their events. We have had a very positive response from other universities about coming along. The committee discussed other PR tactics and came up with the idea of a video to promo. NIGHT-TIME ENTERTAINMENT: We are in desperate need of some night time performers. We currently have a DJ booked and confirmed, and we are planning on having a mini ceilidh to get people up and involved. CHARLIE suggested a drag act and will ask his friend is he is available for the night. 5. FUTURE EVENTS: LUKE AND JACK PARTY: Kim and Kirsty Smith created a schedule for the night. All committee to be there at 6:30pm to help set up apart from Iain, Mariam and Lauren who will be subway runners. Kirsty Smith is not getting paid for this, so we have to be super organised and attentive about not spilling anything and respecting the shop. Then afterwards, well go for pre drinks in Delmonicas, then to polo for the dancing and drinking.

We need to confirm that we will have a tech support person there on the night to avoid the disruption of last year.

RELIGIOUS PANEL: Amy K has emailed people to come and speak for us. We so far have three confirmed: Vicky Gunn, Stuart Macquarie, and Kelvin Holdsworth. The problem we are facing currently is that the three people are from the one religion, what we want is a mix and a range of different religions. Someone suggested approaching the theology department and see if anyone would come and speak. The committee want to provide cheese and wine for the night.

AMY K to email Stuart and see if he has any contacts within the inter faith chaplaincy that would come and speak.

ACTION FOR SOMEONE!!: EMAIL THEOLOGY LECTURERS AND SEE IF THEY CAN HELP AT ALL. ACTION FOR SOMEONE!!: COMFIRM WITH THE SRC IF WE CAN HAVE CHEESE AND WINE ACTION FOR SOMEONE!!: BUY THE CHEESE AND WINE.

ROLLER DISCO: The initial suggested venue was Viper, the problem with this though is that it has stairs and their club night starts at 9pm. We then tried to approach QMU for Quodos, but they are booked as well. Iain and Amy K found jumping jacks, and Amy K emailed and phoned them and they can host our event for a discounted payment of 120. The company we are hiring the equipment for, need to know how many people we expect 10 days before the event so we need to set an upper limit for the ticket sales, 40 or 50? We will launch as soon as we are ready to. 7. EMAIL SITUATION: Iain pointed out some issues with the new provider and asked if this was just a temporary solution until we can get gmail back? Mariam said that there is a way to get gmail back, but it is quite difficult. Kim asked if changing the host was a solution as it is the host that doesnt like gmail we have paid for three years of the hosting plan. The committee are all very thankful to Mariam for setting up the website and for getting the new emails back in running 8. GUU: We feel ready as a society to re-affiliate with the GUU; we will continue to work with them towards a better future. AOB: NICOLA WILLIAMS SRC UPDATE: She has a list of events that she thinks will appeal to us and our members: The white Tshirt day like in Glee where you wear a Tshirt with a word that describes you and be proud about it. She asked us if we have a date we would like her to do this, Iain and Kim said after Queerfest would be perfect as we are very busy at the moment. Nicola says that the 12th of Feb would suit her. Potatocorn day where she would use novelty potatoes to highlight some welfare issues and some solutions or advice centres for these issues. WELFARE SUPPLIES: Amy K said that she has some welfare supplies that belong to the society that are very soon going out of date. QMU EQUALITY POLICY: QMU are planning on updating their equality policies and have asked for our help in doing so. * IN TRANS*: Colvin briefly spoke about some issues that he read about the star in the Trans* part of our title.
