Oxo-biodegradation testing for plastic products

With increasing global environmental awareness, the importance of producing biodegradable plastics products and other consumer materials whether of a solid or liquid nature or state is driving manufacturers to be ahead of the curve and gain market share for the future. One approach is to add pro-degradative additive when the plastic product is being manufactured making it oxobiodegradable or oxo-bio for short.

!he Oxo "iodegradable #O$O% pol&olefin plastic will be added with a salt of a transition metal such as 'obalt #'o%, (ron #)e%, *anganese #*n% or +ickel #+i% to catal&,e and speed up the natural oxidation process which under the action of heat or light, will reduce the molecular weight of the pol&mer to a level where bacteria and fungi in the soil or disposal environment can further reduce the material into water, carbon dioxide and biomass. -nd result is shortening of the degradation process.
