STANDARD: S4.D.1.3: Describe Earths different sources of water or describe changes in the form of water. S4.A.3.3.1: Identify and describe observable patterns (e.g., growth patterns in plants, weather, water cycle). I. Performance Objectives (Learning Outcomes): Students will be able to correctly identify, describe, and illustrate the four main parts of the water cycle.

II. Instructional Materials The Magic Schoolbus: Wet All Over by Joanna Cole 27 blank pre-made Water Cycle Flip Books 27 rubrics III. Implementation Introduction Display experiment from Lesson 1 Bring out exit slips with student predictions a. With student permission, read one or two out loud b. Carefully pass around the room, allow students to observe the water levels in the large plastic container as well as the smaller glass one 3. Have students turn and talk with their table group about how they think this happened, and how it connects to what they know about the water cycle a. Call on several students to share answers

Development 1. Have students open up their academic journals to the graphic organizer from Lesson 1 a. Have students paste into their journal if they have not already 2. Ask students to follow along with the cycle by using their graphic organizer during the reading of the book a. Encourage students to take notes on how/why each stage and process of the cycle occurs b. Preview the flip book assignment by pulling out exemplar, and explaining to students that they will need this information for the assignment at the end of the lesson 3. Read The Magic Schoolbus: Wet All Over a. Call on students during reading to predict and identify the next part of the cycle b. Call on students to identify the how and why each stage occurs during reading Closure 1. Pass blank flip book templates, one to each student 2. Pass out rubrics a. Explain rubrics to students 3. Explain directions a. Each page should have one to two sentences about that aspect of the water cycle and a picture illustrating it b. Display and review exemplar flip book c. Review rubric requirements 4. Allow students time to complete flip books 5. Collect and assess individual flip books Accommodations/Differentiation Provide preferential seating for student who needs clear view of the board/book Allow students extra time to complete flip book who need it
