THE ODYSSEY

This year we will gallivant through different worlds of literature, immerse in the pages of various books. We might deviate into the rugged roads of grammar. Into the lulling sea of poetry, we might wade in our canoes. The memories, the thoughts, the insights will be recorded in the pages of our journals, our essays, and our research reports. After what might seem ages, we will emerge with a heart and mind filled with beautiful words, passages, and stories.

GREAT EXPECTATIONS
1. Be Prepared. Come to class with all materials (books, pencil, pens, paper, and a will to learn). 2. Be Engaged. During class, I need attentive students who are ready to embrace the days lesson. 3. Be Responsible. Complete all assignments on the due date. Also, arrive to class on time. 4. Be Respectful. You must take care and respect your classmates, the classroom, your materials, and me. 5. Be Excellent. I expect all of you to give me your 110% effort when you are in class, but also in your assignments.

THE PILGRIMS PROGRESS

1. Once the bell rings, you must be in your seat ready to start the day. Make sure to look at board in case there is something specific you must do (word of the day, thought of the day, journal entry). 2. In discussion time, make sure to raise your hand and wait until being called on. 3. Remember to always put your name, section, date, and my name on assignments turned in. 4. Final drafts of all writing assignments must be typed. 5. If you need to go to the bathroom just ask, but dont take advantage of my kindness. 6. Please do not start packing until I tell you so. You are dismissed until the bell rings.

BRAVE NEW WORLD

All technological devices (iPods, iPads, cellphones, laptops, etc.) must be put away. I will let you know when it is appropriate for you to use.
! BREAKFAST AT TIFFANYS

Although I do not mind you occasionally eating a snack or two in class, this is a privilege I have the right to take away if taken advantage of. A full stomach is a requisite for an engaged mind.

IN SEARCH OF LOST TIME

Late work will not be accepted unless you have an excused absence. If you have an excused absence, it is your responsibility to find out about your missed assignments, so you can come to me and ask before class or after class. You will have three days to complete any missed assignments (quizzes, tests, homework). Essays and other projects assigned in advance must be turned in on the due date. You can email me the assignment or send it with a classmate. The grace policy: I understand sometimes life gets busy and you might need an extra day to finish something, so you will have one opportunity during the whole semester/trimester/quarter to get a one day extension. Use it wisely.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

Plagiarism is a very serious thing that I will not overlook in class. Any assignment containing plagiarism will inevitably be given a zero. You will also be referred to the principal.

I will not be giving any participation points, but I am looking forward to listening to your opinions, thoughts, insights, and comments. I understand we all have a way of expressing ourselves in which we feel most comfortable, be speaking in class, through journals, or talking directly to me. But do know that what you have to say will be valued and respected.
