Aldo Zuniga Glenna Vasquez Period 4 12/18/13 Capital Punishment Essay Capital punishment is one of the worst punishments

a criminal could receive. In other terms it is known as the death penalty and as the name implies, the person who receives this sentence is scheduled for an execution. Views on capital punishment are scattered between the people, some are concerned that it takes away innocent lives, others believe that it is racially bias. One of the biggest issues with capital punishment is the fact that it is so expensive to execute one inmate. In order to keep an inmate in jail it is a total of $40,000 , and to execute one it is $3,000,000 and an additional $184,000,000 on the death penalty per year due to the additional cost of capital trials, enhanced security for the death row inmate, and legal representation. In order to receive the death penalty, a person must do something very severe that the criminal is marked as a danger to society. Such crimes includes killing a large group of people, rape on several occasions, and other severe crimes. Aggravated murder, is one of the lead enforcements for the death penalty. People that commit arson (set houses ablaze) can also receive the death penalty. There are two sides to the death penalty, it can either be seen as a good or bad thing. On the good side, we would see a decrease in inmates. Jails would have more space and wouldn't have to accommodate more people. While on the other hand, the death penalty is a very expensive process. Having the death penalty carried out countless times could leave America with serious debt. In turn this could ruin the economy and put many other people into bad financial situations . There really is no prescription for the death penalty due to crimes continue on a daily basis and the people just don't care if they get the death penalty or not. I believe a good way to deal with it is to give out more life in prison sentences and just keep those inmates separate from one another. Also, if the death penalty were to be enforced it should only be done to those who have gone to jail more than one or twice. If they commit a crime and come back to jail more than once, then they should get the death sentence. Other than that it should not be done to just anyone. Our prescription can benefit not only America but also the whole world. If other countries were to follow these guidelines we would then see an improvement in the maintenance of jail houses. We would see a decrease in the amount of innocent lives lost due to false accusation and we would also see a decrease in the amount of inmates in all the jails around the world. Not to mention it would improve the safety for all the citizens. This can teach countries to really analyze someones crime and deeply consider the appropriate action the convict should receive.

China uses the death penalty as a form of punishment for criminals of serious crimes. These crimes include aggravated murder, terrorism-related offenses, rape, robbery, drug trafficking, and even treason. In China, whether the offense ends either with or without a death, the criminal will mostly end up being put to death. The death penalty would be executed by either a lethal injection or shooting. However shooting executions were discontinued as of 2010 because lethal injection is a more humane way of executing a person. There happens to be some similarities between the U.S and China in dealing with the death penalty. Both nations have executed innocent lives because of the lack of thorough investigation. Also the death penalty is given to criminals who have committed serious crimes that makes them a threat to society. Another similarity is the method which they use to execute the death row inmates which is lethal injection and sometimes through a firing squad. Although there are some similarities between the two nations there also happen to be some differences. The death penalty in the U.S is mostly biased against blacks and it disregards mental illness. China on the other hand kills criminals for just about anything. It executes its people for crimes that do or do not end with a victim's death. Although both countries happen to use lethal injection as a primary method of execution, the U.S uses a more variety such as the gas chamber, firing squad, electrocution and hanging. I believe a more humane solution would be to put the inmates into solitary confinement instead of death row. The inmates can spend the rest of their life in a small room with nothing to do. This is a more effective punishment because having the criminal suffer in agony doing nothing in a small room for the rest of his life is better than a quick death. This idea will also save the government a lot of money that would have once been spent on court trials for the death row inmates. The death penalty should be removed and should be replaced with solitary confinement as the new ultimate punishment. This action should be turned into a law that will save the troubles caused by the death penalty worldwide. Solitary confinement is a punishment in where an inmate is completely isolated from any human contact for a certain amount of time. The law I propose is basically having the inmate in this situation but for a lifetime. This type of punishment will cause the person to have mental issues throughout the process. This psychological torture starts to affect the inmate after a few weeks locked up. Solitary confinement causes the prisoner to have hallucinations, insomnia, dementia and to the point where their perception of reality is distorted. This is because we as humans crave human interaction as a way to survive. There will be countries that will not want to adopt this type of method instead of giving up the death penalty. However I think a way those countries can be persuaded into accepting this idea is by offering the U.S military force support. The U.S could offer them their support incase they go to war

with another nation. The war however has to be for a good reason and not for a selfish one such as religion. To start out will we make sure not to end up in jail so that we will not add more to the death penalty. As individuals we can always protest and spread the idea in society that the death penalty should be revoked. We will inform them why solitary confinement is a more effective punishment rather than death itself. This way we can gather a group of people in order to spread the message worldwide and get the attention of the government. The more people that are aware, the faster we can eliminate the inhumane capital punishment sentence.
