RIG FOR HANDLING APRON PLATES
IN BILET MILL
INTRODUCTION

• There are some equipments which are
not reachable by E.O.T Crane. To
maintain these equipments mobile
cranes are called up. It takes hours
to make it available. To reduce the
dependency of mobile crane a rig has
been made using in-house materials.
THE PROJECT
• Using the principle of counterweight,
an ingot is used as counterweight
and a long billet as an arm. The
billet has been fixed on the bottom
of a series of holed plates and
these plates are welded on the
ingot. Now the billet has been
inserted and welded on the plates.
Two 112/ ” slings used to fasten the
ring on the hook of E.O.T. Crane. Now
we can access remote areas of the
shop floor using this rig.

PRECAUTIONS
 To handle this rig some important facts to
remember:-
v Lifting a weight more than its counterweight is
not possible .
v Slings should be of proper size and firmly secured
on the job. Snapping of slings and slipping of
job could be disastrous.
v Do not hurry. Handle it slowly and carefully.
v Fasten a manila rope on the back of it to keep the
rig in desired direction and do not allow it to
rotate on its own.

BENEFITS
vIt reduces delay time.
vIt reduces the dependency of mobile
cranes.
vLower the maintenance cost.
vIncrease Mill availability.
SHORTCOMINGS OF THE RIG
Ø
Ø Only experienced persons can handle
it safely.
Ø Need high degree of skill.
Ø Knowledge of rigging is necessary.
